Rockstar has pushed out yet another patch for Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC. If you’re hoping for any performance or stability fixes then you’re flat out of luck though. This update is all about new content, pretty much exclusively focused on Red Dead Online.

It’s now been over a week since Red Dead Redemption 2’s launch and I still can’t even run on it on this particular PC. Which sucks, frankly, and I’m certainly not alone. It didn’t work at launch and it’s spitting out the same error to this day, despite the updates. If I’d paid for it I’d have got my refund and walked away long ago. Hopefully all of these problems get ironed out soon enough, although I suspect the Steam version is probably the way to go when that launches next month.

Still, mustn’t dwell, onward and upward with the new content for those fortunate enough to be able to play RDR2. It would appear PC players are going to miss out on all the previous timed exclusive content that’s appeared on consoles since launch, including a few Legendary Bounties and timed clothing items but, going forward, the two versions are now in update parity.

This means both PC and console players can put a bullet between the eyes of Red Ben Clempson, this week’s Legendary Bounty. As a little reminder for those of you new to Red Dead Online, Legendary Bounties can be completed up to five times each, getting progressively more difficult with better rewards.

New items have also been added to the Wheeler, Rawson & Co. Catalogue, Red Dead Online’s clothing store, including new coats, hats, boots, caps, ponchos, and the like.

Of course, your game can be buggy like utter garbage, but god forbid that milking cow that is multiplayer and microtransactions get delayed for even a day. Otherwise you just aren't proper AAA developer. Just shows where their priorities are. Which is shame, because singleplayer game is great, it just would need to get properly fixed.

Did anyone succeed with refund?

Koroush Ghazi (from TweakGuides) attempted to get a refund through Australia's ACCC refund policy, but it looks like he has to jump through a lot of hoops to try to do it and the whole process thoroughly pissed him off :
"Turns out the ACCC can compel Rockstar to give me a refund but I need to take legal action to effect any change on the Launcher issue. No way, I'll wear the loss. But I'll no longer discuss or acknowledge any aspect of RDR2. If other PC gamers accept this rubbish, that's on them."

@Jon why can't you get it to run ? Do you mean it crashes or does it not even launch ?

But imagine all the stuff you'll be able to spend your cash on in RD online once they eventually fix that issue!

Jon what all have you tried ? Have you tried making exceptions in the antivirus or turning off all of its different modules ? What about manually uninstalling and reinstalling the launcher ? Checking if you're missing any redistributables ? What about motherboard BIOS update ?

Everything but the BIOS update. done antivirus, reinstalled the game, reinstalled the launcher, redownloaded redistributables, messed with the configs, deleted the configs, switched graphics cards, downloaded new drivers, rolled back drivers, pretty much everything.

That's just absurd. To reinstall a whole OS just so a game could work. Even all the steps he took already are way above the ordinary troubleshooting. It's an absurd bug that should've never passed through QA, and the fact that it did and is still not fixed is unreal, especially when it's coming from a AAA major studio that's responsible for a game that's the highest grossing product in the history of entertainment.

where is the outrage ? this game clearly wasn't finished before releasing on pc but people are oddly silent because it's Rockstar so they get a pass. If this was EA , all hell would have broken loose by now lmao

Metacritic currently has the PC user rating at 3.6 out of 10. 245 Positive, 33 Mixed and 618 Negative.

I'm of the opinion that the only people who look at Metacritic user scores are people who are either already angry with the game or fanboying, so as a method of outrage I don't think it does much at all when it's stacked up against "92% - Universal acclaim based on 19 critics"

I always favor the user ratings above all. Critics are often clueless. On a sidenote I can't run the game properly either, I was boggled when Gamers Nexus showed that a 980ti should get 57 AVG fps on 1080p/High. I tried with 720p/Low and I get massive chops and stutters, game literally freezes for a few seconds, every few seconds. Can't even get through the intro.

@Saari6 - You've probably seen the latest GN video where he shows the issue RDR2 has with higher than 130/140 fps - it causes stutter. Same issue with GTA V if you reached 187 fps. I didn't even know about this till now.

Just make sure you're not getting above 120 fps - cap your framerate. That at least gets rid of the engine issue with Rockstar's much-too-high-fps-stutter

@Saari6 I read somewhere that this game is quite "thread demanding", in a way that 4 core/thread cpus experience heavy stutter/freezes (like freezing for several seconds every 20-30 seconds)

Yeah I saw the videos. I figured the issue stems for my cpu being overwhelmingly under-powered (for what that's worth). Quite an optimization issue.

Yes, RDR2 is not really friendly to those 4 core CPUs (i have an i5 3570k and considering getting ryzen 7 2700 or R5 2600.THe stuttering happens to CPUs that has lower than 8 threads and higher than 16 (because of that high FPS issue which is solved by capping the framerate to 120 fps, of course it happens to those PC with 16 threads paired with a gtx 2080 to output that much frames that the engine just can´t handle.

@Saari6 - I guess 4 core 4 thread CPUs are coming to the end of their lives for smooth 1080p60fps High quality gameplay, but you can still get playable performance in RDR2 if you tweak settings and cap your fps to 120fps.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9L2cY8f6UJk - i5 7400 & GTX 1050Ti

I wouldn't call it smooth gameplay at 1080p Medium. Avgs around 40 fps, with 0.1% Lows at 20 fps, and noticeable micro-stutter. A little annoying, but not completely unplayable.

Good thing they have their priorities straight. Wouldn't want people to finish with the game before all the necessary online content is ready to buy.

Wtf man?! How can they lie about the System Requirements
and don't fix this mess? I said here once: After Control, I never trust to any goddamn lie about System Requirements. GTX 1060 for high settings 60 FPS! :)))
