Valve’s decision to target VR for its first new Half-Life game in 12 years was always going to prove divisive. Fans have been desperate for either Half-Life 2: Episode 3 or Half-Life 3 for well over a decade. Whichever way you slice it, a VR-exclusive Half-Life 2 prequel probably isn’t what most were wanting. To be honest though, give your head a wobble; Half-Life: Alyx is a brand new Half-Life, it’s what we’ve been desperate for years.

Having told us that Half-Life: Alyx exists on Tuesday, Valve has now finally unleashed the first trailer for its AAA Half-Life virtual reality title. When we say AAA, we mean it as well. This looks like the premium Half-Life 3 experience you'd always dreamed of, only this time it's strapped to your face.

Half-Life: Alyx is set between the events of Half-Life and Half-Life 2, with Alyx as the star, obviously enough. Alyx and her father Eli are working together in resistance against the Combine threat.

Half-Life: Alyx will be coming to Steam in March 2020 and will be playable using Valve Index, HTC Vive, and Oculus Rift virtual reality headsets.

This is the kinda game that VR needed to launch with! If that happened VR would be in a much better place imo.

I think Valve is playing it safe with Half Life title. If HL:Alyx fails then valve can go back to drawing board or stay in hibernation like they do.
I think they will push VR with HL3 of course it could be named differently like HL:EndGame

I saw the trailer more than thrice straight, only recent game that made me hype this much was Witcher 3.
I hope this game become what it is supposed to be.
Just wondering how game like Dead Space,Mass Effect will fell like with this tech.

Even this is not a Half-Life game we asked for. The hype around this game (or trailer) is massive. That can prove one thing that people really wish for a new Half-Life game and not just meme around for nothing.

The environment looks the part but sadly to me the character models look more cartoony like dishonored or bioshock than what half life was. I was hoping a bit more detail in the faces

I think epic store caused this. If is this game leads to the impossible version of Half-life 3 epic store will be come the doomed store.

It seems very VR centered, I don't see how they could make it into a conventional game without compromising on a lot of things.

Jesus.....another hyped fanboy.... We only saw one trailer, and you're saying this is polished? I'm amazed how easily ppl are impressed nowadays. Look at all those Ubisoft big titles, their E3 and other gameplays. And then look at fully release garbage, that we're really getting (looks at GR Breakpoint). Wait for more game footage, gameplay, hell, wait till the game is released, then you can really state it's real quality.

I'm not pissed. I'm just noticing that (in my opinion) it's not quite right to state "it's polished game/product" when it's only been announced for couple of days and you've seen merely couple of footage.

Yep, we have to wait and see if it is polished as in this trailer.

I don't understand what you're on about. There's nothing untrue about what he said. He simnply said it looks polished, which it does... What does Ubisoft and EA games have anything to do with this? Also, this is Valve, most if not all of their games are top-notch. They have a industry well-known standard; I don't expect anything but AAA quality on their part. And from what we saw, the gameplay trailler indeed looked well polished and visually impressive.

Yall need to let people have their excitements lol.

No matter what bigger or more popular games will always have more to offer than smaller games. People like a lot half life and for that this game is hyped right now. I remember the time where i was hyped for Starcraft 2 beta and playing Diablo 3. This is the legacy of these types of games. If u don't like it don't play it. Now i'm not getting hyped for diablo 4, but i havent watched it a lot.

Those Valve Index controllers seem to be miles above any current ones. I don't know if they work with other headsets or are they exclusive to the Index headset?
This genuinely looks really interesting, and If I have to guess, that's probably Source 2 engine?

Yeah they are and unfortunately not available in Australia! DERP I might have to try and get some sent from the USA or something because they look awesome! Another game they feature in is Boneworks. The ability to grab items and move individual fingers etc is unreal.

At least it looks from the trailer, kinda mad that this is a vr exclusive title considering we all have been waiting for this game and very little % of ppl actually have vr.
