Up For Debate - What did you pick up in the Steam Autumn Sale and Black Friday?

Written by Jon Sutton on Sat, Nov 30, 2019 2:01 PM

It’s been a busy weekend for the wallets of the world. If the Steam Autumn Sale didn’t drain them then Black Friday was waiting in the wings, waving cut-price SSDs and bargain-bin monitors in our faces.

Somehow, Amazon has spearheaded its own evil version of Christmas, catapulting Black Friday into a new stratosphere of commercial madness. I barely even know what Thanksgiving is apart from turkeys  and colonisation but Black Friday has become a global phenomenon. Even if the most strong-willed can’t help but get their head turned by the wave of deals and cutthroat prices.

Now it’s time to put away that credit card and come down from that post-purchase high. Let’s take stock of what we’ve all bought during the biggest sales weekend of the year.

I've had a quiet one this year for the sales, to be honest, I've got no moolah at the moment, so, er, I didn't buy anything in either of the big sales this time around. Maybe next year, when an upgrade is a little higher on the agenda!

What bargains did you manage to find on Black Friday, and did any games take your interest in the Steam Autumn Sale? Or were you disappointed by the offerings this year? Let us know below!

I got Plague Tale on GoG, it's fairly basic gameplay but looks gorgeous and has a good story!

It's been trickling in more mechanics the whole time. Only up to chapter 8 but really enjoying it(:

I only picked up two things on Steam. The steam controller because why not and Portal 2 for $1. I have so much stuff in the backlog that I couldn't really justify buying more games that I won't play.

Just Resident Evil 2 but I bought the key from Green Man Gaming since it was cheaper.

Nothing. I believe I'm having a burnout as a pc gamer. From the new Titles there are almost no games, that would make me say "wow, I must definitely buy that" etc. I don't know if I'm getting old or most games except for good graphics have really not that much originality to offer.

Hope you didn't spend much on GR Breakpoint. It only looks cool, but those looks are horribly deceiving.

What can I say, recently I have started leaning towards modern tactical shooter games. I have completed Wildlands & RSS, bought Ghost Warriors 1,2,3&Contracts.

I got the old tomb raider games which were released before the new 2013 reboot series, Portal 1 and 2, a new 8gb RAM for my laptop, and RPGMaker MV software on Steam for doing a JRPG project.

thankyou kind hooman. I think there are some really tasty indies that deserve support like Dead Cells, Valfaris, Noita, Katana Zero, Disco Elysium, and a ton others I can't remember. Maybe I'll do a post/blog on them.

Some other games I'm thinking of nabbing are F1 2019, The Witcher 3 GOTY, Cities: Skylines, Hard West, Breach & Clear, Deus Ex Mankind Divided, Phantom Doctrine, Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun, Blasphemous, Aragami, Tomb Raider, Just Cause 3 XXL, etc

Picked up a game of Monopoly: Cheaters Edition for a tenner...and that's it so far. The only really good deals worth my time were storage (SSDs, HDDs, SD cards), but they are dropping prices so much and I've got plenty of those for now - I didn't even bother this time...
Steam sales too, beside Vampyr (which I may or may not pick up) - I'm not yet decided if I really need anything. Too many games owned already, too little time to play them all. Waiting for RDR2 to properly launch :D
