Global Game Awards 2019 Results: Best Hardware

Written by Jon Sutton on Thu, Dec 5, 2019 2:45 PM

While the Global Game Awards 2019 celebrates the best in gaming, we also love to get behind the very hardware which allows us to play all of these incredible experiences. From the graphics cards which use to power those to pixels, to the stunning 4K displays, the uber-ergonomic mice, the motherboards which are the beating heart of any system, and everything in between.

PC gaming is about choice. Unimaginably vast choice. Take a look around here on GD and you'll notice practically no two systems are the same. We have all picked different headsets, keyboards, consoles, CPUs, and everything else, all in the aim of the ultimate gaming experience. But what's the best gaming hardware you can buy right now?

Here we laud the best of hardware during the Global Game Awards 2019, rewarding the immensely work that goes on underneath the hood as well as on the screen to dish up the fantastic gaming experiences we've enjoyed for the past 12 months.

2019 has been a seismic year for PC hardware. AMD's comeback has been seen in full force, going toe-to-toe with both Intel and Nvidia across the CPU and GPU markets respectively. We've seen the arrival of the first consumer gaming 7nm graphics cards. Nvidia went Super. The PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo Switch continued to dominate. It's been a fascinating year and things are only going to get more interesting for gaming hardware as we head into 2020.

So sad that Switch didn't win Console of the year. It's my personal fav.

Same here, we got so many good games on the switch this year and I really don't understand how it didn't win, I guess not many people here have a switch

I really don't agree with the best VR headset, hands down it's valve index...

yeah, but it is now well known for most people as it seems

Feature wise, yeah it's obviously the Valve Index but I think the Oculus Rift S is just way more convenient since you don't have to set up any lighthouses, it being less than half the price of the Index makes quite a difference as well

It still weirds me out that a 2080Ti wasn't even on the list to vote for...

Oh, so that's how it goes...

The same cloud headset also won last year.

Didn't the PS4 win at some year (maybe multiple years too, since it launched in 2013)..? I see no reason why the 2080Ti (or even the RTX Titan) must be omitted. Best means best and in the past we've definitely had repetitions.

There's enough new GPUs every year that it doesn't need to repeat like the consoles do.

As for best, that's open to interpretation. It won last year so obviously a lot of people liked it, and it is the fastest, but is it the best value for money, for example? Probably not, depends on your use.

What about the Cloud headset that won this and last year (and in 2017, though another, slightly different revision of the same)?

See below. The only hardware nominees I handled were CPU, GPU, consoles, most anticipated, VR, PC Builders, Phones, can't speak for the rest but it all depends on whether worthwhile new additions came out this year.

Maybe, just maybe because it was released 2018 and this is the 2019 vote.

To me "best" means "best" and this year it's still either the 2080Ti or an RTX Titan, hence my expectation.

Besides, the ROG Swift screen is a 2015 screen, the PS4 launched in 2013, the headset is a 2014 model which won last year and those PC builder companies are not 2019 startups either, so you tell me the consistency of this logic... If such old products can feature in the 2019 vote - why can't a still recent and still flagship 2080Ti..?

I can't speak for the monitors, I didn't handle them, but where applicable the games and hardware should all be released this year, bar a few exceptions.

Don't worry, your graphics cards are still very fast

Not validating a purchase (as mentioned on Discord...because I obviously had to, for you...), just looking for logic and consistency. That's all.

i just see that ps4 won which is not only outclassed by its mid-cycle successor, but they are both outclassed by the competition's mid-cycle successor.
