We’ve had milsim battle royale, Home Improvement battle royale, post apocalyptic battle royale, car combat royale, and even Tetris battle royale, but we’ve never had a battle royale based upon racing through the Scottish countryside in a Nissan Micra. Forza Horizon 4 is just about to fill this glaring hole in the market with the arrival of The Eliminator, a new “battle royale inspired” game mode for up to 72 players.
The idea behind Forza Horizon 4: The Eliminator is pretty simple. Players are dropped into Forza Horizon 4’s giant open-world map and there’s a big ol’ shrinking circle. Leave the circle and you’ll be eliminated. Everyone starts with a 1965 Mini Cooper but these can be swapped out at Car Drops, which are pretty much Fortnite’s treasure chests. Players then compete in head-to-head races in a winner-takes-all scenario. The loser is kicked out and the winner can either upgrade their current car or steal their losing opponent’s car.
One the circle has shrunk to its minimum possible size, all of the players then take part in a giant cross-country race to a random target destination. The first one there walks away as the victor of The Eliminator.
Forza Horizon 4 never takes itself too seriously and this is a perfect example of that. It’s daft as hell, no doubt about it, but it’s also free and it could well be a whole lot of fun.
The Eliminator comes to FH4 via a free update today, December 12th, at 1pm EST / 6pm GMT.
