12 Games Of Christmas 2019 Semi-Final - Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order v The Outer Worlds

The juggernaut that is Red Dead Redemption 2 dispatched Halo with all the ease of an experienced rustler herding cows, firing a repeater square between Master Chief's eyes. It's become the first game to reach the Grand Final.

But it won't be alone.

Next up, it's a couple of single-player giants. Both Respawn and Obsidian are studios working at the peak of their game right now. Respawn managed to release Star Wars: Jedi - Fallen Order in the same year as Apex Legends, which is just obscene, while Obsidian muscled in on Bethesda's territory with the excellent The Outer Worlds. Only one of these two Global Game Awards winners can make it through to the final though.

How the community voting works

Each day at 17:00 GMT two titles will battle each other. Whichever title receives the most votes in the poll wins, and will then go through to the next round. 12 games in total have battled away, and the first six rounds took place from Monday through until Saturday, one battle per day. Those six games which won have made it through to the semi-finals, where these three further 1v1 fights take place. The winners of these three battles will then make it to the three-way final to decide the ultimate game this Christmas.

Each bout will last 23 hours, and the winner is whichever game receives the most votes in the poll, which can be found towards the bottom of each article.

Semi-Final: Fight 2 - Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order v The Outer Worlds

Get voting below for your winner, and remember to check back tomorrow for Semi-Final 3 of the 12 Games of Christmas, where the next two titles will battle it out to earn a place in the final. The winner of today's competition will face the winners of the next two semi-finals (maths isn't our strong point) in the final on December 18th.

Outer Worlds for the simple fact that even if EA did good with the game they need to understand that one good game doesn't cover years of crap, they have to be constant.

but why would you decress value of the game and dev becouse of publisher?

Because the publisher is heavily involved in the whole process as well and you can't give money to the publisher directly even if you'd want to.
That's not a problem if you pirate though.

ofc its hevily involved but game is good and devs did good job what does devs have to do with it, if you like something why would you refuse to get it just becouse its being sold by someone you dont like make no sense
and cmon man will you ever let that go or will you mention me pirating on every comment

It makes all sense. Why would I willingly buy something sold to me directly by the company that's been fcking us for the last decade? I'm not going to give them a chance to fck me again and it's a shame that a good studio pays the price.

I don't have a problem with you pirating. Everyone pirated, I did too. The issue lies with the fact that you obviously don't pay for most of your games but you're calling people out who do by mentioning that Devs deserve that cash.

That cash which you yourself are not giving them. You do technically a worse thing but you call people out for less. It's unfair from you towards the devs you're "protecting" and towards the people you talk to.

never sayed that they deserve the cashe if something can be free i will go that way, but what i did is that they deserve recognision(if thats the word), i am talking about is this a good game and why, i am not talking about is this game worth buying or not

Problem is just like Ubisoft they are now in the clear after a lot of dirt just cause they did 1 good thing. Now they exploit the same good thing they did till they have to clear themselves out again. I haven't said "it's a bad game"

I have said it's a bad publisher. They need to step up to value the games they publish, not until they do 1 good thing. If they keep up the good work they deserve to be acclaimed. Pirating is not even worth anymore there are so many good

games in a way that i'd rather buy another game or play something in the backlog. Still, after all the backlash EA gets everytime i'm surprised that ppl just "forget" at the very first good thing they do and blindly praise them.

Honestly I don't get the hype about Jedi Fallen Order. I'm a huuge star wars fan, but I didn't like the game at all. The controls are extremely clunky, combat is frustrating because of all jerky animations of enemies. The main character is rather boring. Honestly the only good thing about it are the visuals and sound.

I would say Star Wars is pretty much winner here, it is case of AA title going against AAA. And while SW was bare minimum one should expect from EA, it still is great game, especially since it is something AAA just doesn't do these days. Of course Outer Wolds is amazing in its own way, it really comes well together with world and story, but in the end, it kind of is gem, just flawed gem.

While Fallen order has Star Wars franchise behind it. Still, I do hope Obsidian keeps working on it and eventually makes franchise even better. Outer Worlds really shows that you don't need perfection to have fun and it really does show how something more on AA side can still be amazing. And less optimistically, I do hope Fallen Order manages to prove a point to EA,...

... that not every game needs to be overmonetized like FIFA and that it is ok, if there are games made for gamers and not maximum profit. I doubt it, but still.

Played both to completion, both are excelent games (duh, they are in a game of the year vote). Star Wars has the most satisfying combat of the two and imo it is more competent in technical terms (better optimized, looks more modern, ...

has better animations...) but The Outer Worlds just sucks you in, it has an incredible and unique art-style, great choice driven story and it just has that "Oooo what am I going to find next?" vibe, it simply gets my vote for that.

I played both for a little (Outer Worlds on my XGP and SW on a friend's console account), I gotta say, Outer Worlds is cool and has good writing but the design of the open world and the art really didn't do it for me. Also felt very unbalanced, and despite the writing, the characters were not all that interesting. Gonna go with Star Wars.
