Horizon Zero Dawn's PC launch was nearly as big as The Witcher 3, sold 716K in release month

Despite a very rocky launch, Horizon Zero Dawn - Sony’s second PC port from the PlayStation 4 platform - has seen some really great figures, with sales reaching 716K units in its release month. According to SuperData, a platform for analysing games sales, Horizon: Zero Dawn’s PC launch was “nearly as large” as The Witcher 3.

It was also “significantly larger” than Assassins Creed: Odyssey’s launch month, and sold considerably more than Death Stranding’s PC release (which reportedly got 477K in sales). That’s quite a strong launch despite all the technical issues faced upon release, and for a game that already released nearly 4 years ago on the PS4 console.

Between Horizon ZD’s strong PC sales, and the massive acquisition of Zenimax by Microsoft, hopefully this will push Sony even further to bring their console exclusive titles to PC, as their relationship with the PC platform is very odd right now. Sony already said that they plan to bring more first-party titles to PC, yet they won’t confirm whether the upcoming Demon's Souls Remaster is coming to PC, or even if the newly announced Final Fantasy 16 will be getting a PC launch.

What do you think? Did you get Horizon Zero Dawn? Or are you waiting until it’s a bit more stable? And do you think this will push Sony a bit more towards PC releases? Let us know!

Do you want more Sony titles on PC?

Our favourite comments:

Hope Sony sees the light and brings more titles to PC now. HZD is a very good game, not as good as The Witcher 3 by a long shot but a very good game nonetheless.

I wish this game would have done worse on launch, it took them 3 weeks of patching to even make the game playable for more than 5 minutes. Honestly the sales were undeserved and they were riding on the PS4 hype that told us what an amazing game it was.
NOW it works great, no crashing, and I'm on my new game+ and couldn't be enjoying it more. But that first month was absolute **** for everyone.

I didn't enjoyed horizon as much as it was praised by ps4 players but I surely would love to try other games.

Read Dead Redemption 1 Remaster, The Last of Us I/II, Uncharted series and God of War would be awesome. But chances are they will probably come at the tail end of the generation when Sony recouped all the money from consoles and games sales.

Sonny bringing playstation exclusives is win/win situation. They port it to pc once ps sales plummet, they get new sales on new platform, pc users have the ability to play exclusives without console.

They might be quite close actually. In terms of gameplay Horizon wins. But the story and quest desing are quite weak so it balances out.

Yeah, gampelay wise horizon is better, but story and side quest definately better on the withcer 3

The story i The Witcher 3 is far superior than HZD's, And I have explored Withcer 3 several times over yet I am still amazed to find new stuff, new branches and totally new scenes even today as the developers took care to sculpt these nuances even when they didn't have to and most people wouldn't find these unless they watched a YouTube video. That's why The Witcher is the best game ever made in my opinion. Not perfect but the best.
