Grand Theft Auto 3, San Andreas, and Vice City Remakes rumored in leaked Take-Two slide

A leaked slide from Take-Two Interactive has revealed the publisher is working on 6 “new iterations of previously released titles,” or in other words, potential remasters/remakes of older games. Thanks to the leaked slide we now know what a few of them are, including “three unannounced” projects that are rumored to be Grand Theft Auto-related.

So Take-Two is planning to release 6 remasters/remakes by the end of Fiscal Year 2022 (March 31st 2022), and those include the Grand Theft Auto 5: Expanded and Enhanced edition for the next-gen consoles, the Grand Theft Auto Online standalone version, as well as Kerbal Space Program for next-gen consoles.

The other 3 then, are yet to be known. However, that doesn’t stop some rumors from floating about. Rumors of Rockstar’s original Grand Theft Auto 3 getting the remake treatment started to swirl around earlier this year, along with potential remakes of GTA San Andreas and Vice City. All 3 of those would fit nicely into Take-Two's 3 unannounced projects as a 'Definitive Edition Collection' for sure.

The most recent example from Take-Two would be the Mafia Definitive Edition Trilogy, which were some beloved games that got the remake/remastered touch-up treatment, which would work pretty well on the GTA franchise and with the absence of Grand Theft Auto 6 nowhere to be seen, would surely be gobbled up by desperate fans.

Then there’s also a Red Dead Redemption remake/remaster that PC players have been begging for for years, but then what are the other 2 projects? Either way, it would certainly make sense for them to be GTA related. One thing’s for sure though, as Take-Two will be announcing a “new franchise” soon, and it might be the rumored Marvel XCOM game.

What do you think? Would you be interested in a remake/remaster of Grand Theft Auto 3, San Andreas, and Vice City? Which one would you most be interested in? What other remasters/remakes could Take-Two be working on other than GTA? Let us know!

Would you be interested in a remastered collection of old GTA games?

Would you prefer full on remakes or simple remasters?

What game would you be most interested in getting the new treatment?

It's true, at least for the android/ios port that's also used on newer consoles. It's literally a port with some tweaks, they didn't even bother fixing old bugs and created some on their way to the release.

Get ready for butchered radio stations with expired music licenses. I personally dont really care about these remakes, i dont care that much about graphics on old games, but i care about compatibility with modern systems and that stupid 30fps limit in gta 3, VC and SA, when if you unlock fps, the higher you go the more unplayable it gets, some mission timers and objectives are possible only by enabling 30fps frame limiter. That is my main pet peeve with those games, other than that i had plenty of fun by recently replaying whole gta franchise.

As long as Self Radio is still included, who cares about the radio stations? Do people really use them, instead of your own music anyway? The stations get boring fast thanks to the limited amount of (good) songs.

I think many people care, me included. I dont use my own music because i use spotify and i listen to my own music all the time so its nice to hear some other songs from the game. Not only that, in older games news segments in other stations provide additional info on ongoing events at the time. So yeah gta games are known for very good soundtracks and many people want it to hear when they are playing for nostalgia or other reasons.

An honest question...is there any remake of any game that was done actually well, added to already great experience, and wasn't a half-asses buggy mess? Because at this point my excitement is overshadowed by fear.

Super Mario 64, RE remakes, MGS collection, pretty much any Zelda refresh for a new console. Just a few that I really liked! Plus Rockstar has a lotta TLC built into their team so I think they'll do it right.
There were so many tiny details in GTA V that I can't wait to see what they do with San Andreas!

Yes! The mafia 1 remake.. The one that was remade from the ground up.
I loved mafia 1 original, but i deeply love the remake now.. One of the best games in the genre ive ever played.

Don't have to look further than the games mentioned in the title of this article. We all know how bad the android/ios (and newer console) ports are of this game. Old bugs exist, some new bugs added.

What's the difference between Remaster and Remakes ?

remasters normally just touch up the textures lighting, and UI, an example is the current versions of GTA SA you can find on mobile and PS4.

Remakes normally build up from the ground up with newer high res models, gameplay modifications, new lighting and shadows, new textures, etc. They completely make the game from scratch with newer tech. An example of this is Mafia definitive edition, or the resident evil remakes.

What Bt said, but I'll add for clarity that a remaster should, ideally, not be touching the gameplay, map, etc in any way, where a remake will often change certain aspects of the game according to the devs/pubs whims.

Remakes or nothing. Remasters are pointless for PCs and in general those games are dated now.

100% agreed, with current community patches they are all basically remasters on PC for free. The worst thing about these games are 30fps limit, which would need a major rework of the game

aye i would have been cool with the NFS hotpursuit remaster had it had 120 fps but being locked at 60 ??? thats a game that can easily run 4k 120fps even with the remaster (especially when you consider the remaster has no impovement in the graphics at all just more settings to tweak compared to the original saying HIGH MEDIUM LOW deal with it)

I hope they remaster them, instead of remaking them. Perfect games should not be remade. I wasn't too impressed with Mafia 1 remake, it felt like a downgrade.

Remastering Vice City or SA would be quite the challenge... They're special (to me, anyway) and they'd need to hit juuuust the right notes to work as remasters. Not that we know that this is gonna happen anyway.

They should do what Microsoft with Halo 1 and 2. Build a new graphics layer on top of the old game, run both at once, let people swap, leave mechanics untouched

The same seems to be happening with Diablo 2. But it really depends on the scope of the game. I'm sure they couldn't help themselves and want to include additional stuff in the GTAs (if they were remastering/remaking) so then it wouldn't be viable to run the old game underneath, even if we plebs think it would be the best option.
Plus any remakes/remasters would surely also change the OST, which would suck (and already does - thanks, retroactive updating! grrrr....)
