In an unprecedented move, Electronic Arts announced a remake of the original Dead Space and even let its developers show us some very early development gameplay on the title. The reason was to get some initial feedback from fans of the series, and it looks like EA Motive has got all they need as they are now “heads down” in development and won’t show anymore until next year.
“It was important to us to give you an early look at what we’ve been working on so you could tell us your thoughts,” said a Dead Space Remake developer in a recent Reddit post. “We’ll continue reading your feedback and what your expectations are for the remake of Dead Space.”
“Everything we showed was a work in progress which means that we’ll be working on things like Isaac’s suit, the aesthetic and ambiance of the Ishimura. We’re doing work to ensure it has the right level of wear and tear.”
“We’re going to be heads down now working on the game, taking some time to review all the thoughts, theories, and suggestions you’ve all shared with us. We look forward to showing you how you’ve helped shape the game next year when we’re further in development!”
One developer even chimed in saying “were pointing out the Ishimura looked a little 'too clean' on the stream,” before linking to this early in-development video on Reddit, which shows a developer adding some more wear-and-tear and dirt to the surrounding scenery.
There’s still no release date mentioned yet, and by the sounds of it we shouldn’t be expecting the game to release in 2022. That doesn’t mean we can't be hopeful though, and at least we’ll be getting more updates next year at some point. For now though we’ll just have to wait for more updates from the team.
