There's never quite been an RTS Strategy quite like the iconic Age of Empires series, and with the next official entry coming out soon Microsoft has announced that a free public Open Beta is starting this weekend for everyone, following a successful Closed Beta last month. Thankfully, they've also revealed the official PC system requirements.

You can take part in the Age of Empires 4 Open Beta (known as a technical stress test) on Friday September 17th at 10am PT (1pm ET / 6pm BST), via requesting access straight on the official Steam page, or on Xbox Insider app itself even if you are not currently signed up as an Xbox Insider. And you can check out the official announcement post for all details on what will be included in the Open Beta.

But without further ado, let's take a look at the official Age of Empires 4 system requirements...

Age of Empires 4 requires at least a GTX 970 or RX 570 graphics card in order to meet the recommended system requirements, which should deliver 60fps performance at 1080p resolution. You will also need at least a Core i5-8600K or Ryzen 5 1600 processor as well as 16GB of system memory.

The best chance you will have at playing Age of Empires 4 at the minimum system requirements will be if your PC has at least a GTX 460 or RX Vega 11 GPU, paired with either a Core i5-6300U or Ryzen 5 2400G processor. With this setup you should achieve 30fps performance on Low graphics settings at 1080p resolution. You will also need at least 8GB of RAM.

Looking over the specs above, you will need at least a 7 year old PC in order to play Age of Empires 4 smoothly.

As ever, remember you can always check out how well your PC can run the Age of Empires 4 System Requirements here, where you can check benchmarks and performance from other users. Compare your graphics card to the Age of Empires 4 GPU benchmark chart and we also have a Age of Empires 4 Frames Per Second system performance chart for you to check.

They HAVE to be low. This is a game played by a lot of people, on older hardware, mostly on lower end laptops. If they want to sell, they need the game to have lower requirements so it can run on virtually any laptop or beat-up old potato.
