This week saw the release of Arkane’s latest time-looping mystery, and saw critical acclaim from multiple publications. However, the reception on PC has been less-than-ideal, with a lot of user reviews claiming they are suffering from terrible stuttering issues. Bethesda has since said they are working on it, but that hasn’t stopped some players from blaming certain issues.
Bethesda said they are investigating the stuttering inDeathloop as a top priority, but they haven’t specified exactly what is causing it: “Regarding performance we are aware of reports that some PC users are experiencing stuttering issues in Deathloop,” said a Community Manager. “We’re actively investigating the issue right now as a priority, and will update you with more specific information as soon as possible.”
The biggest problem people are associating the stuttering with in Deathloop is Denuvo DRM, and yes the game certainly includes it, but it seems like that may not be the actual issue. Many users are reporting the stuttering no matter their hardware configuration (even on high-end PCs!), but many are also claiming they haven’t noticed any stuttering at all.
What seems clear right now is that there is some sort of stuttering coming from using a keyboard and mouse, as many have pointed out a clear jittering when moving the camera. However, when switching over to a gamepad controller, this issue is resolved. Some have even claimed that running at frame rates above 60fps can cause issues as well.
Either way, it seems like we’ll have to wait a bit before getting an official answer and a patch to fix the problem. It’s clearly widespread or the official Steam page wouldn’t have a “Mixed” rating with only 67% Positive reviews at the time of writing. One thing’s for sure though: Deathloop is a pretty demanding game regardless of any stuttering.
What do you think? Have you experienced any stuttering whilst playing Deathloop? Did you fix it? How did you fix it? Have you tried using a gamepad and did that help? Let us know!
