I'm split on getting this...

On one hand, Vicarious didn't really do anything stupid like blizzard did (at least not to our limited knowledge) and they do great work on ports. On the other hand - fatty kotick will get some of the cash as it trickles up the chain...

Regardless of the above, the main deal for me is the limitations of the remaster. I play the original with a mod called PlugY, which adds infinite personal AND shared stash space (no more throwing uniques/runes/gems away or creating a bunch of mule chars!), enables extended stat windows, allows respeccing characters (in case you wish to experiment or made a mistake), moves Cain to a more convenient location in Act V, enables certain QoL features, such as keeping your last "players X" count when you restart a session (great for Mephisto runs!) and so on and so forth. It's a long-time favorite and a must for any D2 fan, basically. To go from all that to something closer to vanilla again, even if they added a couple of stash tabs - it'll be a bit painful, no doubt.

No TCP/IP support either. I get that they want to curb piracy this way, but it was dumb to promise this feature and then yank it away.

I always wanted D2 on a portable... My Switch OLED pre-order should ship next month, so maybe it would be worth picking this up for it then, since the OLED will make all these dark games I play a lot nicer to look at (extra contrast), but then if I wait a bit longer, I could just play on the Gabe Gear... decisions decisions...

I am so pumped! One of my faves...never really stopped playing. I don't care for corporate lawsuits etc., most products we purchase are tainted in some way - especially tech hardware.

I loved the way it was remastered, but what bugs me is that PlugY (and mods in general) won't be supported, so it's back to throwing out all the cool stuff you find vs getting to keep it all. PlugY is such a massive game-changer that I can hardly see myself enjoying the remaster as long as I do the original :/

That plus the drop for promised TCP/IP support. Funny how they promised a feature, then thought about it, realized that pirates would just be playing online through that and decided to axe it altogether. Lame...

Yeah, for SP maybe infinite stash could be an option...apart from that, it is basically PlugY. The graphical improvement is so significant though, I can't go back just for a little more stash space. I'd just use a mule program or additional characters, when I need it.

The problem is that people cracked the alpha and were playing multiplayer and sharing on YouTube/Reddit/elsewhere. They gave Blizzard no choice but to ban TCP/IP, even if the D2R team wanted TCP/IP. If they didn't crack the alpha, we'd likely have TCP/IP now.

Ah, so it's the usual of a few assholes ruining it for the rest of us :/

By the way, I am starting to agree with you there. I don't think i'll junk the OG version just yet, but you're right, pretty much all the major PlugY stuff is in D2R, minus the infinite stash. I'm having a blast trying out a few characters, seeing how things are. Kurast is beautiful now! O_O

This really crept up on me. Its hard to advertise a game when the company is getting free advertisement for all the sh!t its done. Bad things have come around to bite them in that big a$s!

What makes it complicated is that Vicarious does great work and isn't the one under fire, yet if you buy D2R - some money trickles up to fatty kotick...
