Despite their fan reception, the Titanfall series has seen a long drought since the last game. Developers Respawn have explicitly made clear that they are very busy on other projects, and that a new Titanfall game is not currently in development. However, they haven’t ruled out the entire series just yet.
In a recent livestream, Jason Garza, the Community Coordinator at Respawn Entertainment, didn’t exactly help the situation when they were asked for an update on the Titanfall series, and whether a new game would be coming out at all. His response was quickly picked up by various media outlets as a definitive answer Respawn won’t be returning to the series:
“Yeah, it's a game with a lot of mechs,” Garza said. “It's an old one, back when Xbox [One] first launched. Don't get your hopes up, man. I've said this before, we just don't have anything in the works. There's nothing there. We've got too many other games in the works right now.”
However, after the quote was picked up online, Respawn further clarified what Garza meant by that statement. But instead of clearing things up with fans, it seems to have just further muddied the waters, with fans more confused now than before whether Titanfall 3 will ever see the light of day:
“Contrary to what some folks are reporting, Titanfall is the very core of our DNA,” Respawn said in a Tweet. “Who knows what the future holds…”
That last line is pretty coy, as fans have been desperate for Titanfall 3 since the last one was pretty much abandoned. It also doesn’t help that Titanfall lore and weapons even exist in Respawn’s other iconic IP: Apex Legends.
Either way, even if Titanfall 3 ever comes out, it likely won’t be for a very long time, echoed by a statement from Head of Respawn Vince Zampella back in May 2020: “there’s nothing currently in development. But it’s always there,” he said at the time. “At some point, I would personally like to see some kind of resurrection there. We’ll see if I can make that happen.”
What do you think? Would you be interested in a Titanfall 3? Do you think Respawn will ever develop it? And if it does come, when do you think we can expect it? Let us know your thoughts!
