The original Resident Evil changed the games industry when it came to survival horror experiences, and quickly became a cultural icon for Horror fanatics. Since then it has seen a fair few remakes, but not quite anything like the recent REmakes Capcom has developed. Nevertheless, a fan remake of the original Resident Evil in Unity includes a first person camera that completely changes the feel of the game.
Although Resident Evil 2 Remake and Resident Evil 3 Remake opted for over-the-shoulder camera perspectives instead of first person like the new mainline entries of Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil 8 have done, the original Resident Evil has been stuck with fixed camera angles throughout all of its different editions.
It’s currently not complete yet, and only has a limited amount of content at the moment. However, Richard Aiken, the game’s creator, has said on their itch.io page that “this game is made only for fans and was made without any intention to make profit.” Hopefully that will be enough for Capcom to not take the project down, but don’t get your hopes up.
If you thought the above trailer looks a little fake or scripted, then you can check out some actual gameplay by content creator Residence of Evil who, as their name implies, creates all sorts of Resident Evil-related content. Right now there’s a bare minimum of content available, but you can see how it plays out in the gameplay below:
What do you think? Would you like to see a remake of the original Resident in first person? Or would you prefer a remake like the RE2 Remake and RE3 Remake? Let us know!
