Capcom has just revealed the first official expansion for Monster Hunter Rise, known as Sunbreak, which will introduce new monsters, story, locations, gameplay, and more. But most interestingly Capcom also revealed that Sunbreak will be launching simultaneously for Switch and PC in Summer 2022.

There’s two reasons as to why that’s important: so far we haven’t heard anything about Monster Hunter Rise coming to PC other than it will happen sometime in early 2022, which we now know will at least be before Summer 2022. And secondly, it sounds like Capcom won’t be following the footsteps of Monster Hunter World on PC…

Monster Hunter World launched for PC after the console version, and for a long while it was behind consoles in terms of updates and DLC releases. The fact that Sunbreak is launching for PC and Switch simultaneously means Capcom might have learnt their lesson, and so Monster Hunter Rise will likely be caught up with the console version at launch.

What do you think? Are you excited for Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak? When do you think we’ll see MHR on PC? Let us know!

Nice. The only thing really missing was the challenge in end game. Really hope they have tweaked the spiribird system since it's pretty annoying but I guess it's the new way to prepare for a fight.

I'm pretty disappointed in Rise, imo it's the worst and most watered down MH experience so far. I'll definitely give the dlc a shot, but if anything they're only going to add more and more mechanics to make everything even easier than it already is.

Have you played MH World and the "oldschool" MH games, like MHFU, 3, 4 or Gen? What's your opinion? Me and and my missis have been holding out till the PC release, but from what we've seen it feels like we might not really enjoy it anywhere near as much as the past titles. They seem to have made the maps huge to facilitate the mounts and the wirebug (solutions to problems the devs created) and in general it seems they changed the movesets drastically and the weeb-bug is pretty much a must (kinda like the clutch claw in Iceborne). Reddit seems to give varying opinions on this game as well, far from the usual "too hard" as was the case with older titles.

I played everything that's available in the west + p3rd on emulator, and the problem I have with Rise is (similarly to Gen) that they just added so much stuff, so many mechanics that the game has lost it's character.

You used to have to think about what you're doing, learn attack patterns and look out for a window that would allow you to attack, with rise it's more like a messy hack and slay type of game, especially in multiplayer with 3 others + their companions. You're just spamming attacks for the most part, the monsters die within <10 minutes and the monsters attacks do very little damage.

The maps are fine imo, but I agree that the wirebug mechanic is pretty unnecessary, and you have to collect birds after joining a quest if you want to have full HP and Stamina, no more eating and/or skills, spirit-birds..

Oh crap, that doesn't sound like MH... I read your comment to my missis and she said "I'll be honest - I don't even know if I want it anymore..." lol.

I totally get what you mean with the attack windows and learning the patterns - this methodical combat is what got me hooked on MH when I first played Freedom 2, later Freedom Unite and all the rest like you (I have a 3DS, PSP, etc. P3rd I first played with an English patch on the PSP, well before the emulators were a thing xD). I have to say that in Gen and GenU I didn't really have problems with the extra stuff they put in, since it was not much wackier than what was in 4U, plus you can always just play Guild Style (though I ended up finishing the entire game pretty much with Aerial SwAxe, including Athal-Ka).

World was not looking that good at first, the mouse controls sucked real bad at launch, I thought it was flashy and took away the prep that mattered in the older games, but I got used to it and it became one of my favorite MH games (mostly thanks to Iceborne and no thanks to the ever-annoying "handler"), even if it now shares many aspects with asian MMO games. One thing that REALLY sucks about World is the forced clutch claw use. It interrupts play, IMO, having to tenderize the damn parts every couple of minutes, lest the quest last 2-3x as long as it needs to. A close second in the crap pile would be cheap 1-shot moves and similar scripted sequences, which were not present in the older titles, making some fights more repetitive than they should feel. But all this can be looked-past, and we got used to it, it grew on us.

Rise...the wirebug bugs me (lol) and I can't shake it. This is actually also why we're waiting for the PC version, as the controller combat did not feel great like it did in the pre-World titles, I feel like all this flying stuff really needs a mouse. But then the combat, as you mentioned, truly does look a lot more hack'n'slash-y, rather than the methodical combat I grew to love in MHFU. Fun fact - my missis never played MHFU until AFTER World, she thought it was gonna be old, clunky and horrible. But she found that the gathering is more enjoyable than she thought it would be, the prep matters and the combat is satisfying - shows that MHFU aged really well :)

Eh... no clue what to do about Rise. The fan in me wants to give it a try, but the non-weeb in me hates quite a lot of stuff about it and there are plenty of people saying that this is different, that is different, this and that sucks, etc. Maybe on a heavy sale..?

How is it? Have you played the older titles (World and, especially, before it)? What do you think?

It's a must play Monster Hunter bro! I've played since MH Tri and loved World but the verticality of this one is so amazing and feels unique. Plus the stuff they added to my Charge Blade is pretty fun too.

YES! I've been playing the old "flat" MH games with a controller, but when they moved to more dynamic fighting in World and Rise - the controller just...sucks... So me and the missis have been playing World/Iceborne on PC and have been waiting for Rise on PC for that same reason as well. Finally some good news!

The expansion's flagship looks like a reskinned Velkhana from Iceborne, tho...

That being said...the stupid wirebugs I'm not keen on. This destroys most stuff that was present in MH games up to World, such as Crit Draw skills and muscle memory on moves. I'll try it on PC, but I have my weeb limits...
