It seems like everyone is hungry for a brand new MMO as the new title from Amazon Games officially launches today. Despite not having a unified launch across the world (instead opting for a morning launch in all major regions, except Australia) it has seen massive amounts of players flooding into the world of Aeternum, and it’s still growing fast.

Currently, as of writing this article, there are 618,534 amount of players in New World right now according to SteamDB charts, constantly breaking the all-time concurrent player peak. There’s no signs of slowing down right now, which just goes to show that Amazon’s MMO is proving to be a pretty popular title.

What’s more, because of the morning launch in major regions (except Australia), most of these players are actually from Europe, and we’re expecting a big bulk of players to come in the afternoon in North America. Even though the morning launch means we won’t see hundreds of thousands of players in-game all at once, we could be heading to Cyberpunk 2077 territory here.

All of this is to say that New World is clearly very popular, but whether Amazon’s investment has actually paid off we’ll have to wait and see after the first week or so and see how players are feeling about it.

What do you think? Are you excited for New World? Will you be playing it later? Have you already been playing it? What do you think of it? Let us know!

Will you be playing New World today?

Do you think New World will reach 1 million concurrent players on Steam?

I don't know why but at the current time of me reading this, and the chart, the game is at 51% positive reviews, which of course means that half the people who played it aren't happy with it for some reason. Im guessing it's not the servers, possibly, since at the moment there are about 300k players in the game.

As for myself though. Im not really interested in this game in the least for some reason.

if you read those reviews, its people compaining about long queues, which is true. There are servers that have 20k people long que, and if you consider server cap is 2000 people at the end of the que have to wait 10 full servers of people to connect. They should have had many more server ready on launch day. Its always better to overstimate and then join few servers together than half people not playing because of low capacity.

Not interested in playing on release and that is exactly because experience with online games is the worst on release. And from what I hear, queues are quite long... not sure why people are still surprised about it, but yeah, give it at least few days for initial spikes to calm down and spread a bit. Maybe few weeks, if you want major priority issues to be patched. I am still not sure when I will give it a try, but I probably will check it out eventually. I truly am in no rush.

reading from steam reviews, it seems like NW servers just shat the bed, i would wait a bit for load to calm down a bit, before getting since, if you try to connect and use up steam's 2 hour refund window then you might have difficulties refunding it

honestly best day 1 i can remember for a game. EU servers went down this morning about 9am for 10 mins i personally had no queue waits but my friend who came on about 2pm got stuck in a 300 queue for 25mins. but so far no bugs whatsoever, no lag that I've notice. world looks beautiful

Ha! What's the gameplay like anyway? What's the situation with questing - do people get to killsteal or do dungeons/quest areas instance personally?

ive enjoyed the gameplay so far, id say it like a cross of Skyrim and dark souls, as in your armour and backpack weight effect your dodge/roll/attack speeds and stuff. from what i understand of the later game territory war stuff its kinda like planeside 2 with massive factions. fighting to claim the territory. who ever claims it charges tax to other faction players doing missions in the area and cheaper crafting/buy costs. if i could complain about 1 thing it would be some of the mission in the towns have no quest marker. so when mission is go craft 20 stone bricks and there is 15 different crafting benches in town with no quest marker, its a bit long.
