This week saw the launch of Ubisoft’s newest and highly anticipated Action Adventure entry in the Far Cry series. Critical reception has been rather mixed so far, with some saying it's an enjoyable ride, if a bit familiar, whilst others have panned it for being the same formula over again. So now we want to hear your thoughts on it so far!

Of course, by this point you’ve probably only experienced the first few hours of Far Cry 6, so we’d love to get your initial reactions to it! How is it holding up so far against previous Far Cry games? What do you think of the story and gameplay? What have you done so far? We want to hear it all!

Or maybe you’ve been staying up late at nights to play through FC6 and you’ve gotten quite far already, in that case do let us know how the game has progressed and what your thoughts are on it, same as above! Maybe you’ve even tried co-op gameplay already, if so, let us know what the experience has been like!

Of course, please keep the discussions SPOILER FREE! Even if some of us are disappointed by the release, or extremely happy about it, we don’t want to ruin anyone else’s experience. Far Cry is a pretty big franchise at this point, and Far Cry 6 has been highly anticipated by fans, so let’s keep it friendly and spoiler-free!

What do you think? How are you finding Far Cry 6 so far? Is it holding up against other Far Cry games? What is performance like for you on your system? And what’s your favorite Far Cry been so far? Let’s debate!

What do you think of Far Cry 6 so far?

What has been your favorite mainline Far Cry game so far?

Do you think Far Cry 6 is enough of a change to the formula? Or does it need its own revolution?

I enjoyed Far Cry 6's hipster revolutionaries so much I uninstalled it and put Far Cry 3 back on just for some peace and quiet.

See I'm not the only one who though far cry 6 wasn't that great just "ok". It's the same gameplay formula the game it self was well kind of boring now. This is obviously since I've played all the games prior to this in the series and apparently am done with the series now having my fill. Ubisoft churns content out with little difference these days. The same can be said about most companies.

If it wasn't for me seeing Giancarlo Esposito in the trailer and doing voice work in the game I wouldn't of been interested. He was great in the boys, better call Saul, and as Moff Gideon in the Mandalorian. Its a rarity for me to purchase a game just because of a actor but it does happen once in a great while for me.

far cry 2 is by far the best far cry i've ever played and none of the newer ones come close to it...

I think there is no need at all to change the far cry, maybe a little.

even those who complain here would not have complained if far cry would have come out just another 6 years

In short, the problem with Ubisoft is that it releases games of its franchises every two years

Instead of creating more franchises and putting out every game in the series every 6-9 years

I don't necessarily understand this thinking "[game X] needs a change in formula" - no, it doesn't, because it loses its core! Look at what happened to Ghost Recon, Assassin's Creed and so on over time! Games become homogenized into yet another open world shooter/slasher. This doesn't need to happen. If people don't like FC5 or FC6 or whatever because it's "too Far Cry" - then kindly buzz off to another franchise that is NOT Far Cry to escape the Far Cry formula 🤣

I guess it makes a lot of sense, nowadays people complain about everything, if a franchise sticks with what they been doing for so many years, they say it is more of the same, if they decide to do a change, people complain that they changed the core of the game. I guess developers have a hard time understanding costumers.

They don't have a hard time "understanding customers", they go for the lowest common denominator that is sure to make money. If you look at, say, Ubisoft's forums - there are plenty of people complaining about having nothing to do in a game, no "endgame content" or that "endgame content" is not good enough, etc. They ask for open worlds, etc. People are now applying MMO terms and expectations to single-player games, instead of just moving on when they're done with a game.

And what is Ubisoft to do?

If they make a new AC game open-world - the people who wanted an open world will buy and the people who don't care - they'll keep on not caring, meaning the open-world side wins by default. If some people moan about "endgame" MMO-style content - Ubi can put it in, because that'll stop the whiners, but those people who don't care (or the majority of gamers who don't complete games they buy) - they won't care either way.

So now instead of having these tight, well-designed experiences - we have bloated, open-ended games that all start feeling the same because the lowest common denominator of gamers complained and they happen to matter more than the people who aren't bothered if the game is "open world" or not. Happens all the time.

Say, I don't give a crap about MP. FarCry 3/4/5/6 have MP - I don't care, I still buy. Those people who do care - they might not buy the game based on that. And MP takes away from a tight experience, since now there have to be various design choices taken into consideration for the multi-faceted/random approach to everything, meaning it can no longer be a tightly-designed linear experience.

Tell me the difference between modern Far Cry, Ghost Recon, Assassin's Creed and Watch Dogs nowdays. Weapons and location, obviously. What else? Open world, kill bad guys, capture outposts, follow map markers for loot - just a different label on your digital shelf. Now compare AC 1 or 2, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 1/2 and Far Cry 1/2 - they were all so different and had a distinct style.

So...yeah, complaining that Far Cry is "too Far Cry" just leads to Far Cry becoming yet another open-world shooty-slashy game with no spirit...but at least it's got skinnzzz and mocrotrashhh and multahplayarh and end-gaem!! Oh boy...how exciting....

I get that Ubi is a big corpo now, essentially, trying to turn over a bunch of cash, but that sucks. Instead of taking "the risk" of designing a great story and a great game - they go for the list of tickboxes to check (multaplayur - check, opun werld - check, skeenzz - check, endgaem content - check, luet chests - check, etc) and THEN design a game around all this nonsense. It works for a while and it certainly did work while it was fresh around FC3/4 time, but we clearly see now that it is getting stale. And where do we go from here? What more is there to add? We have so much freedom in FarCry, such vast open maps, arsenals of funky weapons, pets, etc - what MORE is there to add to this abundance? I'd argue that we could go for a more linear experience, but I can hardly imagine how Far Cry could get it's formula changed when it's already a "do whatever in a huge map" kind of a game.

I didn't buy it yet, but from what I saw, it is just more of Far Cry, like it doesn't really do anything major with formula. Which isn't necessarily bad thing, if you wanted more of Far Cry, then this is good. But if you didn't like previous game, new one will do nothing to change your mind. I will likely eventually get it. Same as with 5, which I got eventually, I think on sale.

As for favorite, I really dunno which one I would pick. 3 was classic, no denying there. But I also liked 5 a lot. And Blood Dragon was by far most interesting spinoff they did. I wish they did more craziness like that. Primal just felt boring compared to it. Wish they did more of that kind of craziness or even exactly that kind with sequel.

I haven't played a Far Cry game since FC4 was released, and although the game world is pretty and full of details, like all Ubisoft titles, it kind of feels...empty, pointless, something's missing and idk what.

The 4 player CO-OP mode was so much fun in FC3, but in 6 I can't even play CO-OP with randoms (I don't have friends lol) but at least they let you do those missins solo (but they're hard af on the harder difficulties)

FC3 Blood Dragon was my favourite, the map was just big enough but not too big, not a ton of grinding, loots of cool effects all around, the soundtrack was dope, and let's not forget about the freakin' LAZER DRAGONS...Damn I want Blood Dragon 2 now :(

And FC6 is kinda buggy right now, and it runs kinda weird, frames feel choppy even at 100+ fps, something's really wrong, far from unplayable, but it's not as smooth as it should be.

Oh don't mind the polls, I just left my vote there so I can only see what others voted. But if many are doing the same, then the polls are so wrong.

Yes, that's the thing with Ubisoft games, they "look" awesome but more times than not, they are boring and play and feel same as the previous ones.
