The time has finally come to liberate the people of Yara in a revolution against the tyrannical dictatorship of one Anton Castillo! But how well you can lead the revolution may very well derive from your PC performance and how much FPS you can get out of your hardware, so let's take a look at some PC performance benchmarks for Far Cry 6...

First of all, in this PC performance benchmark article for Far Cry 6, we benchmark a range of graphics cards going from the higher-end RTX 3070, which is the recommended system requirements for ray tracing at 1440p; to the mid-range GTX 1060 which again is just under the recommended requirements for 1080p 60fps on High graphics settings; and finally down to the lower-end R9 380.

Then we go through the FPS test results of each graphics card running at 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen resolutions. From there we can see the performance of the minimum and recommended system requirement graphics cards and consider how well optimized Far Cry 6 really is.

Far Cry 6 fortunately does include an in-game FPS benchmark tool, and from our testing we found the tool to be pretty representative of in-game performance, though is slightly different. Essentially, expect FPS to be lower in-game than in the benchmark tool by about 5-10%, which is not a huge amount overall. For the benchmark tool: the camera swoops through a small village with several NPCs and ends with some action shots of explosions and bullets flying. This is pretty representative of the majority of your in-game experience in Far Cry 6. All results were recorded without ray tracing enabled, which will instead be explored in our graphics optimization guide for Far Cry 6.

With that in mind, let's jump into the PC performance benchmarks for Far Cry 6...

Average FPS for Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 in Far Cry 6 @ 1080p

Far Cry 6 Low Medium High Ultra
Average FPS 63 57 53 50
Min FPS 26 20 4 21
Max FPS 77 69 69 64

The FPS performance of the RTX 3070 in Far Cry 6 at 1080p is okay. It's clear that a CPU and/or RAM bottleneck is occurring as the FPS results largely remain the same across all 3 resolutions. Nevertheless, these results are not terrible, but expect better performance if you use a more modern processor. That said, the RTX 3070 is perfectly suitable for playing Far Cry 6 on Ultra graphics settings at 1080p.

Average FPS for Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 in Far Cry 6 @ 1440p

Far Cry 6 Low Medium High Ultra
Average FPS 63 57 53 49
Min FPS 27 17 5 18
Max FPS 77 68 67 63

The FPS performance of the RTX 3070 at 1440p in Far Cry 6 is once again okay, still playable and the bottleneck is clearly reducing performance but not a significant amount that becomes unplayable. Again, expect better performance on a more modern CPU/better RAM. But the RTX 3070 is perfectly suitable for playing Far Cry 6 on Ultra graphics settings at 1440p.

Average FPS for Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 in Far Cry 6 @ 4K

Far Cry 6 Low Medium High Ultra
Average FPS 63 57 53 47
Min FPS 28 24 11 39
Max FPS 74 66 63 57

The FPS performance of the RTX 3070 in Far Cry 6 is pretty good at 4K. Although the bottleneck is still clearly happening on Low-High graphics settings, it definitely eases up at Ultra, but is still playable. If you want more consistent/stable frame rates at 4K consider lowering graphics settings down to High or lower. Either way, the RTX 3070 is perfectly suitable for playing Far Cry 6 on Ultra or High graphics settings at 4K.

Overall, the RTX 3070 is perfect for playing Far Cry 6 on Ultra graphics settings at 1080p, 1440p, and even 4K. However, for 4K you may need to lower the settings down to High or lower for more stable and consistent frame rates. The CPU/RAM bottleneck is pretty harsh, but not enough that it becomes unplayable and should net you higher FPS on lower resolutions if you have a better setup all around.

Far Cry 6 GTX 1060 benchmarks and frames per second analysis performed on Nvidia MSI GeForce GTX 1060 | Intel i7-3770K | 8GB

Average FPS for Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 in Far Cry 6 @ 1080p

Far Cry 6 Low Medium High Ultra
Average FPS 63 55 50 45
Min FPS 27 14 2 35
Max FPS 76 66 61 56

At 1080p, the FPS performance of the GTX 1060 is alright, achieving below 60fps from Medium graphics settings and onwards. This is still a playable frame rate but be mindful dips may occur in-game and so it might be best to stay on High or lower graphics settings in order to have enough headroom. Overall, the GTX 1060 is perfectly suitable for playing Far Cry 6 on High or Ultra graphics settings at 1080p resolution.

Average FPS for Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 in Far Cry 6 @ 1440p

Far Cry 6 Low Medium High Ultra
Average FPS 52 46 42 34
Min FPS 9 27 35 16
Max FPS 63 53 48 40

At 1440p, the FPS performance of the GTX 1060 is surprisingly okay, reaching above 30fps performance even on Ultra graphics settings, though dips in-game would surely bring that down below 30fps. Therefore, the GTX 1060 is perfectly suitable for playing Far Cry on High graphics settings or lower at 1080p, as long as you don't mind sub-60fps performance.

Average FPS for Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 in Far Cry 6 @ 4K

Far Cry 6 Low Medium High Ultra
Average FPS 29 25 23 18
Min FPS 10 3 7 4
Max FPS 33 29 26 22

At 4K, the GTX 1060's FPS performance is not great, here the game is practically unplayable even on Low graphics settings as in-game you should expect that number to drop a little more anyway. As such, the GTX 1060 is not recommended to play Far Cry 6 at 4K resolution.

Looking at the results above, the GTX 1060 is still a pretty competent GPU to handle Far Cry 6 even if it can't reach 60fps performance all the time. It can also handle 1440p resolution quite well so long as you don't mind sub-30fps performance. So in the end, the GTX 1060 is perfect for playing Far Cry 6 on Ultra graphics settings or lower at 1080p resolution, and on High settings or lower at 1440p resolution. The GTX 1060 however is not recommended to play Far Cry 6 at 4K resolution.

Far Cry 6 R9 380 benchmarks and frames per second analysis performed on AMD MSI Radeon R9 380 | Intel i7-37700K | 8GB

d888ded6-1583-435d-90f6-e47fab3f268c.jpg

Average FPS for AMD Radeon R9 380 in Far Cry 6 @ 1080p

Far Cry 6 Low Medium High Ultra
Average FPS 10 10 8 7
Min FPS 3 3 2 2
Max FPS 12 12 21 31

The R9 380's FPS performance in Far Cry 6 at 1080p resolution is not good at all, this is because even on Low graphics settings the 2GB of VRAM is not enough for the game which significantly reduces performance by a considerable amount. If you are planning on playing FC6 with low-end hardware like the R9 380, you may need to lower a lot of other graphics settings and possibly even down to 720p resolution in order to play. As it stands though, the R9 380 is completely unable to play Far Cry 6 at 1080p resolution.

--------------------

Far Cry 6 in-game FPS vs benchmark tool comparison

As mentioned above, Far Cry 6 includes an in-game benchmarking tool for a quick and easy way of testing performance based on the graphics settings you have tweaked. However, sometimes benchmark tools like these aren't very representative of actual in-game performance, and as such we have tested FC6 performance both in-game and using the benchmarking tool to see how much of a difference there really is.

Far Cry 6 Low (in-game) Low (benchmark tool) Ultra (in-game) Ultra (benchmark tool)
Average FPS 58.5 63 45.3 50
Min FPS 32.4 26 33.5 21
Max FPS 69.2 77 54.1 64

As you can see in the results above, the benchmark tool in Far Cry 6 is not that far off from actual in-game performance, resulting in a 5-10% lower FPS in-game when compared to the results in the benchmark tool. Although the difference is rather small, it's important to take this into account when you yourself use the tool to judge performance.

Essentially, if you are happy with how performance looks in the benchmark tool, make sure to increase that result by about 5-10% by reducing some of the graphics settings in order to make sure that actual in-game performance will be fine for you. Otherwise, the benchmark tool in Far Cry 6 is pretty representative of actual in-game performance.

Conclusion

Looking over the benchmark results above, it's clear that Far Cry 6 is a pretty demanding game in some areas, but not as demanding as you might have thought when first taking a look at those system requirements. High-end and even mid-range hardware should have no problem, however low-end hardware will really struggle with this title and will need to significantly reduce graphics in order to be even playable.

It's also clear that FC6 relies heavily on CPU performance even on higher resolutions, as in this case the performance was significantly affected by the low CPU/RAM specs of the tested PC. So consider upgrading your processor and memory if you want to play Far Cry 6 at its best.

The RTX 3070 for example practically achieved the exact same frame rate results across 1080p, 1440p, and 4K. It also achieved less than 60fps at 1440p resolution on Ultra graphics settings, even though an RTX 2070 Super is recommended for the same settings. The RTX 3070 is even recommended for the same 1440p Ultra settings at 60fps performance with ray tracing enabled. So again, expect much better performance with high-end GPUs when using a more recent CPU and RAM.

Far Cry 6 is also extremely dependant on VRAM, as the R9 380 was just barely too low when all graphics settings were set to their lowest, yet it still achieved a completely unplayable frame rate of around 10fps. So here you would need to lower the resolution even more to something like 720p in order to get a playable FPS.

Additionally, although the official Far Cry 6 benchmark tool is pretty representative of overall in-game performance, you should also expect actual in-game frame rates to be around 5-10% lower especially in certain areas like villages and scenes with high intensity action elements.

As always, we welcome any and all feedback from you guys as well with your experience of hardware configurations and FPS performance/quality settings. That way we can all better gauge how well our systems will be able to run Far Cry 6.

I had to look it up... Your CPU was brand new when Far Cry 3 came out..🤦‍♂️ This benchmark is like using the first Pentium 4 with hyperthreading on Far Cry 3.

The performance report is completely inaccurate. Apart from the CPU being the bottleneck, what's up with the 8GB of RAM?

You mean to tell me that the 3070 will give you 50 FPS at 1080p Ultra while the GTX 1060 nets you 45 FPS on the same settings? And Jensen said it was safe to upgrade from Pascal 😅

My rig is right at the recommended settings for 1440p. I'm running everything on High settings, with Ray Tracing and FidelityFX enabled and getting a pretty consistent 60-80 fps. No stutters, pretty buttery smooth if you ask me. Only thing I've noticed is some low res textures and talking during cutscenes can go mute. Other than that, not a bad launch from my end compared to previous Ubisoft titles.

talking during cutscenes can go mute.

Ugh... It was lip-sync stopping during dialogue with Valhalla and now this. Sounds even worse tbh.

GD, time to upgrade that old i7 that is now more like Pentium, because even i3 should be able to outperform it.... like those 3070 results might as well not even exist, since they tested CPU, not graphic card. Just saying. Like I am not saying you need i9 or R9. but come one, at least relatively modern R5 3600 or i5 equivalent? Sorry, but I can't help but say it.

i guess i wasnt the only one wrong who thought why the fps is similar in all 3 res with rtx 3700 and i7-3770k.

Also i found a typoo in the graph with R9 380 with 37700k i doubt there's an CPU with that name..

But currently as i see i will be able to run this game just fine like any other on 1080p low between 30-45 fps which is enough for me to be playable.

Time tu put i7 3770k in the trash can where it belongs. This benchmark is completely worthless due to bottleneck.

I thought the same. Now this benchmarks is useless because all it shows is that CPU bottlenecks and probably not enough RAM.

What do you mean by DSR?

As far as i saw gtx 750ti on 1080p low with FSR off gives around 25-30fps while here it says that r9 380 gives 10.. also there is no oc that would make gtx1060(750ti) faster then gtx1080(r9 380)

That 3070 is being SEVERELY bottlenecked by the 3770K... Painfully obvious looking at the graph showing identical framerates at different resolutions.

Nice graphical analysis, but i think it is time to let that i7 3770k CPU go or keep it with the R9 380 and maybe even a 1060, and get at least a 3000 series ryzen CPU or 10th gen intel proccesors, becuase it really messes with the results here.

Yeah, keeping it for the 1060 and below testing would be great for people with those older and more balanced rigs of the time, but it's definitely holding back the 3070 real bad.
