Battlefield 2042 Beta is a few months old says DICE, progress already made on criticism

This week saw the Beta release of the highly anticipated next entry in the Battlefield series, and for the past couple days fans have been getting to try out the new shooter. General reception from players has been mixed, but DICE has reassured fans that the current Beta build is a few months old, and great progress has already been made on feedback.

There’s a lot of criticism online regarding the Battlefield 2042 Beta at the moment, but to put it simply: not only are there issues with performance and connectivity, but many fans have complained about design choices as well, like the difficulty in spotting friend from foe due to the universal Specialists, as well as other complaints about movement and more.

Our Open Beta is now a few months old,” said the Lead Community Manager at EA. “We polish and enhance it to make sure that it's representative of the game we've built, but naturally we're making daily improvements, changes, and enhancements all the time. Pardon our dust - and enjoy the gameplay!

It’s a pretty convenient explanation as to why things might seem a little half-baked in the Beta, but DICE has also assured fans that there has been a lot of progress already since the Beta build was finalized a few months ago, and how the recent delay has further allowed them to fix problems currently seen in the Beta.

Since the time we branched the build for Open Beta, we’ve implemented numerous improvements into the launch build of the game,” DICE said in a blog post. “The shift to November also gave us extra time to improve visual fidelity and stability issues that you may experience during the Open Beta.

Obviously, all player criticism is valid, but with this much feedback it's hard to see what DICE can do in just a month’s time to curb many players’ worries. It’s unlikely we’ll see another delay to BF2042, but it’s certainly a possibility based on what fans have already been saying about the Beta, as again most of the issues relate to design and not just stability/performance.

What do you think? Have you been playing the Battlefield 2042 Beta? What did you think of it? Have you seen some of the player feedback? Do you think they are valid? And can DICE address them in time before launch? Let us know your thoughts!

Have you been playing the Battlefield 2042 Beta?

Only issue i encountered is that my CPU is underutilized. I got temps only as high as 44C and when checking the fps counter in the overlay of the game itself i could see it stutter at the CPU segment at times.

I was also expecting a bit of a better performance, even for a beta. 128 player or not, I'm getting around 80-90fps on ultra which is fine I guess.. at least for my system. But only around 120fps on low settings 1080p. The gpu and cpu usage in this game is quite terrible. Barely any difference in the settings because of the bad optimization.

I don't experience many of the things that people are reporting. My fps is around 90-100 at all times and there is a very occasional stutter here and there but overall I'm having lots of fun. I'll definitely buy.

I got 70-100 FPS on ultra at 1440p, but it's undplayable.

It's stuttering all the time, in previous BF games it was like this for the first couple of seconds, now it's constant during the whole match. Hope they get this fixed until release.

Yeah, I've had the exact same performance, maybe 70-115 due to 1080p, but remember this is not even using ray tracing yet and it's looking just 5% crisper than BFV so I don't see where all that performance got lost at (I've had 145 in BFV). It's also an old game build and it was allegedly improved...

1 played one round this morning, NGL i was expecting a bit better performance for my rig but i cant really complain at 1440p ultra with 75-110fps dependent on what i was looking at. but during that 1 round i had a tank spawn with no gun barrel, an ally firing next to me with no bullet sounds, when i found a tank with a gun on top the camera was pinging left and right constant as soon as you ADS. me and my nephew joined a party but it let him into a game without me so i joined a game. then 2nd round it put us in the same game and the same squad. also realised you cant leave a squad to join a new one.

The game keeps putting in NA regions with ping as high as 350 and lots of other people apparently have the same problem, also if you only have 4 cores/4 threads don't bother buying the game, 128 players is killing my i3 9100f with mad stutters

I can see that my oc´d 7700k was going over 80% at 1440p low settings 90-120fps.

Then why give an outdated version out for beta testing if it's not even relevant and the current build is much better. Lol.

My thoughts exactly, i would guess you want to put out in the open the best version of your game not a months old build xD

"Hey we found this bug here whe..." "Relax fam, it was fixed two sprints ago".

Also EA: "Unfortunately people these days can't test for s***. They've just found out now about problems we've fixed a month ago. They've also just got access to do so."

Just delay the game until early to mid 2022 and release a masterpiece. There has been a lot of feedback from people.

Tell me lies, tell me sweet little lies.

You mean to tell me that the best marketinmg strategy a multi-billion dollar company can come up with, to build hype and increase pre-orders for its upcoiming blockbuster game, is to release an open beta which is a 'few months old' that gets them the wronmg kind of PR?

One thing that I hope improves in the final version, is performance. Right now I'm experiencing a lot of stuttering and framerate drops. But unfortunatelly, that is just on of several issues the game has right now, like for instance the UI, sound and in my opinion the worst change is the operator system instead of having proper classes.

That would probably be the quad-core CPU not keeping up from what I can gather from people discussing the game on our GD Discord, maybe you'd like to chip in and see how others are experiencing it?

I think it is that i7 holding you back, 150 players is no joke

Same here, overall high FPS, but constant stuttering.

Seems to be somewhat of a common problem, at least I found a couple of threads about it, looking for a solution.
