This week saw the official launch of the highly anticipated next entry in the Far Cry series, and although it has been met with mixed reception from fans and critics alike, the overall result is generally positive. So what does the future of Far Cry hold? Well, according to some sources, Ubisoft is looking into a more online-focused title for Far Cry 7.

Although Far Cry 6 has multiplayer elements, that can only be seen in co-operative play. But based on some QR codes in the game that players have spotted, Ubisoft is teasing a more multiplayer focused project which could see traditional multiplayer games like deathmatch or objective-based modes introduced.

Obviously, Ubisoft has not officially commented on it yet, and the rumor doesn’t necessarily mean Far Cry 7 will be online only. Instead, it could have more online elements implemented like the aforementioned multiplayer, or even possibly a shared game world like an MMO or an invasion system like Dark Souls, though this is just pure speculation on our part.

Well known reporter and leaker, Jason Schreier, even mentioned in a podcast once that they had heard Ubisoft will take FC7 in a new direction: “From what I have heard, if I remember correctly, they’re aiming to go in a radically different direction for Far Cry after that, after [Far Cry] 6,” he said.

So what do you think? Does Far Cry need a new direction? Is the formula getting old now? Could multiplayer improve that? What kind of online elements do you think Ubisoft are planning if the report is true? Let us know!

Do you think Far Cry needs a new direction?

Let me guess, Ubisoft noticed GTA Online and wants to turn Far Cry into something like it? In any case, if it will be online only, I am out. I have no interest in multiplayer in FC.

Well, there it goes, if this game is online only then im oficially done with far cry franchise for good, i think games nowadays require a change in how you play a game, like vr (Tho i dont have one yet)

Great. Turn everything into a grindy, micro-transaction fueled live-service. I don't know but maybe the top brass at Ubisfot are really daft and hiring idiots for Marketing & PR who could not interpret player feedback for new direction if their literal jobs depended on it.

All that needs to change is the structure of the story. Instead of the player being forced to take on an evil landlord in every game because that's exactly what we have been doing, they can just make it like you are a secret agent or a soldier or Deus Ex (how I miss Deus Ex_) while still keeping most of the gameplay elements of FC plus or minus a few things to freshen it up.

If Ghost Recon battle royale will fail then we will see a Far Cry battle royale game, mark my words.

i dont get thos who voted for this or anyother franchise that they want it to change desperatlly, change in to what exactlly, you want it to change into someting that its not, just look at new assassins creed games good games but not assassins creed, look at our new Ghost Recon Frontline thats drastic change from the rest of the games and no one likes it, yet here people want FC to become what CoD or something

I hear they made one a few years back called Crysis. Apparently it was so good that barely anyone had the hardware capability to play it properly at the time.
