This week saw the official launch of the highly anticipated next entry in the Far Cry series, and although it has been met with mixed reception from fans and critics alike, the overall result is generally positive. So what does the future of Far Cry hold? Well, according to some sources, Ubisoft is looking into a more online-focused title for Far Cry 7.
Although Far Cry 6 has multiplayer elements, that can only be seen in co-operative play. But based on some QR codes in the game that players have spotted, Ubisoft is teasing a more multiplayer focused project which could see traditional multiplayer games like deathmatch or objective-based modes introduced.
Obviously, Ubisoft has not officially commented on it yet, and the rumor doesn’t necessarily mean Far Cry 7 will be online only. Instead, it could have more online elements implemented like the aforementioned multiplayer, or even possibly a shared game world like an MMO or an invasion system like Dark Souls, though this is just pure speculation on our part.
Well known reporter and leaker, Jason Schreier, even mentioned in a podcast once that they had heard Ubisoft will take FC7 in a new direction: “From what I have heard, if I remember correctly, they’re aiming to go in a radically different direction for Far Cry after that, after [Far Cry] 6,” he said.
So what do you think? Does Far Cry need a new direction? Is the formula getting old now? Could multiplayer improve that? What kind of online elements do you think Ubisoft are planning if the report is true? Let us know!
