Rockstar Games has finally officially confirmed that they are developing remastered versions of a trilogy of original Grand Theft Auto games - which includes Grand Theft Auto 3, Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, and Grand Theft Auto Vice City - after many rumors, speculation, and confirmed leaks had been circulating online in recent months.

The remasters will be launching later this year as the Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition, which was already confirmed in a recent rating in South Korea. Another leak through the Rockstar Launcher also confirmed they will be using the Unreal Engine as well.

Very little details are known other than the remastered Trilogy will include “across-the-board upgrades including graphical improvements and modern gameplay enhancements,” but the games will still include “the classic look and feel” of the original titles. Rockstar also confirmed that more information will be announced “in the coming weeks.

Of course, October 22nd marks a special occasion as it will be the 20th anniversary of Grand Theft Auto 3, the game which changed the GTA franchise and inspired countless open world games after. So we’ll likely hear more information during that week. Plus, new items will be added in Grand Theft Auto Online to celebrate the anniversary.

However, there is a catch that may prove to be quite controversial: Rockstar also revealed that in the wake of the announcement of the Definitive Editions, the studio will be removing the original versions of each game from all storefronts starting as early as next week, including Steam.

Rockstar haven’t confirmed whether or not owners of the original titles will be getting a free upgrade to the Definitive Editions (but will more than likely still get to keep the original versions in their library). It’s unlikely we’ll see a free upgrade for owners of the original versions, but as we said we haven’t got long to find out more information about it at least.

What do you think? Are you excited for the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy remasters? Which one are you most excited to play a remastered version of? Do you own the original versions? And how do you feel about them getting removed from storefronts? Let us know!

Which GTA remaster are you most excited to play with new gameplay and graphics?

I'm excited to see how they bring GTA 3 to say San Andreas level of gameplay/graphics if they're gonna market this as a trilogy, that game with it's AI and nightmare missions didn't age well

I just wanted Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories for PC.

This is nice too, but I'd like to finally play LCS and VCS on PC. As well as RDR1.

We need to see some gameplay. I am excited but these games are so old I don't know if a remaster is going to be enough. A remake would have been amazing but hopefully this turns out greay so I can play them all over again

Honestly would have loved to see a remake of the game using the current GTA V rage engine even though i am sure that Rockstar is probably using the Red Dead Redemption 2 or further improved version for the GTA V enhanced and whatever version as Ray Tracing could be a cool implementation for the new consoles. also there must be a newer version being used for GTA 6.

had GTA V current rage engine been used we could have probably had the ability to visit the other maps but now its highly unlikely that will happen

GTA San Andreas is cool and all but man i feel quite nostalgic about GTA Vice City, it would be great to see a PROPER REMAKE of this gem. 😎

If they try to scam gamers with these lazy remasters going on lately, I'm not even gonna bother to acknowledge it. 🧐

Tough choice between VC and SA, both are amazing games. I just hope they do them justice.

I wonder if this is'll be something from Mafia or Resident Evil remake level or just hd retexture with same wooden graphics and slightly changed gameplay. I hope it's not the latter.

Those are REMAKES while these are basic-bitch REMASTERS that don't change much.

It's sad that they didn't went for a full remake on SA because it deserves it.

SA is great, but I'd pick VC because I'm a whore for the 80s and Miami Vice aesthetic xD

i know this shouldn't have annoyed me but it did anyways. i was pissed when i booted up CB2077 and they hadn't paid homage to those 80s stations from GTA
