One of the most anticipated RPGs of the past few years has been the upcoming sequel to the Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines series. Unfortunately, despite showing off a lot of actual gameplay beforehand, developer Hardsuit Labs was taken off the project and the game was subsequently delayed indefinitely.

According to a new interview with Paradox CEO Fredrik Wester, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 was almost cancelled following the departure of Hardsuit Labs, and as Paradox took over the project to search for a new developer they were initially going to scrap the game entirely until they heard a brand new pitch for the game.

When we lifted the game from the original developer, we had a long review in case we should end the game or run it further,” Wester said (via machine translation). “Then we were actually prepared to close the production completely. But we got a ‘pitch’ that we thought was convincing enough to run. played on and we have very good hopes that it will be a good game that meets the players’ expectations.

It’s unclear how much of the original vision of Bloodlines 2 has been remade, if even at all, and whether it has a new direction or sticking with the original plan. Previous comments on Hardsuit Labs’ departure sounded like their progress had been scrapped almost completely. We also don’t know who is developing it now, but Wester did clarify that it is “a very reputable and talented developer.

Bloodlines 2 has had a history of troubled development before it was supposed to launch this year, and it seems like Paradox is willing to cut their losses if it comes to that. However, they also want to see how Bloodlines 2 will perform, which may judge how they handle future installments or even the RPG genre in general:

I would like to see how Bloodlines is received before we bet the next big money in the genre. There is a huge desire for good games in the role-playing game genre so I absolutely do not want to close any doors. But I would like to see what happens, what can we do and how Bloodlines is received.

What do you think? Will Bloodlines 2 take on a completely new direction? Or do you think it will be the same as we’ve seen before already? And how would you feel about the project being cancelled? Let us know your thoughts!

Do you think Bloodlines 2 will live up to its expectations?

Paradox took over? Welp, here comes the tsunami of DLC's making the game more than 200 euro's again.

We do not prefer that they cancel it, or that they take it out halfway, which is what it seems they are going to do. Get money from something half done (MGS5 type but for the beast), being able to destroy all the harsh reputation of the original along the way.

That's scarier than a sabbath party chasing you

I don't think the right people are handling this franchise anymore. I think a good developer / publisher needs to come to the rescue of this beloved series.

What even are expectations here? :-D Since we basically returned to knowing nothing, they restarted development, we don't even know if anything they said before is still true. Plus they never said anything specific, neither why old developers got removed, why they are restarting it, what is this new pitch, will anything even carry over,... So basically there are no expectations here, since we got nothing to even draw expectations from. While I can understand that there can be cases where developers, creator and publisher all can't see eye to eye and have too big creative disagreements, so things fall apart and it isn't always for bad reasons. As much as people always tend to jump to conclusion, creator good, publisher bad, it isn't always the case. But since we know nothing, we simply can't say, because it could be either way. So just saying that basically we can just forget about the game until we learn more. But till then, we can only hope it ends up turning good, though it might forever be stuck with bit of "Prey sequel" effect, where people will be stuck in thinking how original could be better, despite huge lack of actual information to confirm it.

Also if you pre-ordered it, I wouldn't place any bets on it, get refund. You can always buy it again, when you know what you are getting. Provided it does come out eventually. Just saying.

Still never gave a reason for removing the creators from the development team, so I trust them even less to get the game done. I get the feeling Paradox have no idea what they are doing.
