Battlefield 2042 Hazard Zone is basically a mini Escape From Tarkov and Hunt Showdown clone

After a long while of speculation, EA and DICE have finally officially revealed their third mystery mode known as Hazard Zone for the next Battlefield game, and just like rumors before seems to confirm it's essentially a blend of Escape from Tarkov and Hunt: Showdown in various maps from Battlefield 2042.

The rules of the game are simple: suit up with your own custom loadout, drop into a map in a 4-player squad, find and secure a data drive from downed satellites, and then extract the area before getting killed with your loot. If you die though, you risk losing all of your acquired gear and tactical upgrades (perks) that you took in with you.

Extracting successfully will earn you Dark Market credits to purchase new and better gear and tactical upgrades for your next match. These abilities can include anything from increasing your ammo capacity, to loadout insurance that reimburses 50% of your loadout and tactical upgrade costs.

The trouble is, other players are also on the same map and some will even have the same objective as you. There’s only two opportunities for extraction in each game, so be prepared for some intense fights between other players. On PC and next-gen consoles (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S) Hazard Zone will support up to 32 players, whilst last-gen consoles (PlayStation 4, Xbox One) will support up to 24 players.

There’s clearly a lot more to the mode though it seems, and EA hasn’t answered all of our questions, so it's likely we’ll be learning a little bit more about Hazard Zone in the coming months. Since BF2042 is launching without a ranked mode at launch, our guess is that Hazard Zone will be their form of league play, but it’s unclear how competitive the mode will actually be (like leaderboard rankings etc).

What do you think? Are you excited for Battlefield 2042? How do you feel about the new Hazard Zone game mode? Does it seem like something you’d be interested in? What differences/improvements would you like to see over other similar games like Tarkov and Hunt Showdown? Let us know!

What do you think of Hazard Zone?

Which BF2042 game mode are you most excited to play now?

Seem like an interesting game mode, much better than all that battle royale stuff we've seen in the past years (although this still is some form of BR). It's interesting how you can lose your equipment, meaning that you're playing more of a ranked match rather than casually, which is fine, but I do hope to see a more casual mode of this as well (would really suck if you lose your gear that you've spend hours on grinding for and not even using it once!).

Other than that, I'll most likely not buy the game, I don't really have a click with near future and future type of shooters. Plus, I doubt my PC can play it at low settings.
