Splinter Cell series revival has been greenlit by Ubisoft, sources claim

Ubisoft is well known at this point for milking a specific IP dry and then butchering it later on. Thankfully, although it has been used in other games, the Splinter Cell series has largely been untouched by Ubisoft’s diseased hands, mostly because the franchise has been hibernating for the past 8 years.

However, a new report online suggests that Ubisoft has greenlit a brand new Splinter Cell game, 8 years after the release of the last official title in the series, Splinter Cell: Blacklist. Apparently, the new project is very early in development, and could see an announcement next year, though that is unlikely.

Apparently, the idea is to revive the Splinter Cell franchise whilst Ubisoft attempts to “rebuild” their image amongst fans, as their previous attempts were exclusive to mobile and VR, but fans wanted a proper release on PC/consoles. It is also unclear what studio will be developing it, but it’s likely to be one outside of the traditional Montreal studio.

Of course, take the information with a grain of salt, but the source in question is the ever-reliable Tom Henderson, who has perfectly accurately leaked many details about Battlefield 2042 before they were announced. So there’s a lot of credibility behind this rumor, and it certainly makes sense for Ubisoft to revive the franchise considering how much fans have been asking for it over the years.

What do you think? Are you excited for a new Splinter Cell game? What would you like to see in it? What improvements/changes would you like to see from the formula? Let us know your thoughts!

So after Ubisoft saw how all the recent games got so much negative reaction to their cheap games they decided to grab on their last ace and make it another cash machine, they will definitely ruin this one up, I just feel it, after all Ubi*hit never fails to disappoint

Have a fear Ubisoft will full the game with monetization or live service as stated by them prior as the direction for their games.

I am interested as long as it is not a live-service but an actual game that stays true to Splinter Cell.

Yeah, looking at the other games in general, we both know this won't be the case, especially not with Ubisoft.

And now we get to very seriously important question of whether Ubisoft still understands wheat made Splinter Cell great and whether they are willing to build on that or whether they will want to make most mainstream popular game... I mean lets face it, stealth games like original Splinter Cell games weren't for everyone. I personally never was stealth game player, but I did hold high respect for those games, because they were great. I mean there are reasons why people say how Ubisoft only isn't the worst company in USA because they are located in France.... :-D

Still, for sake of fans, I truly hope they deliver amazing game. Still, remember, no preorders.

I'm sure that whatever people liked about Splinter Cell will not be what ubi will deliver. Tom Clancey might as well become our main renewable energy source at this point, due to how hard he must be spinning in his grave...

Maybe they won't use Tom Clancey's name?

So far they've used it on garbage like XDefiant and that alien zombie one... what makes you think that Splinter Cell wouldn't?

yeah right lol they just stamp it on pretty much every game that has guns, wouldn't be surprised if they used that name for other franchises nowadays, like The crew

Yeah I'd pass on that, Ubisoft doesn't make awesome game anymore, Splinter Cell 1-3 were absolute bangers everything after that got worse and worse. I have no confidence they're capable anymore to make anything that doesn't feel like a soulless cash grab.

Absolutely, Blacklist was ok but Sam felt like another character without Ironside’s voice
