A while ago, CD Projekt Red announced that they are working on next-gen versions for their latest AAA titles. Originally, both were due out this year at some point, but the developers said they can't guarantee anything and as we get closer to the end, the studio has now revealed that both projects have officially been delayed until the first and second quarter of 2022.
Although the Cyberpunk 2077 next-gen version doesn’t affect PC players all that much (namely bringing enhanced visuals and features to next-gen consoles), The Witcher 3 next-gen edition is the big one, as this includes enhanced visuals like improved textures as well as ray tracing support and even new content.
“We have an important update regarding the next generation updates of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt,” CDPR said in statement. “Based on recommendations supplied by teams supervising the development of both games, we decided to postpone their releases until 2022. Our current target for Cyberpunk 2077 is the first quarter of 2022, and second quarter of 2022 for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Apologies for the extended wait, but we want to make it right.”
The CP2077 next-gen update should help PC players as well though, as it will likely move the game to a new version which would be based off of next-gen consoles rather than old-gen, improving performance and visuals slightly. TW3 on the other hand will provide massive visual improvements, but unfortunately that recent European rating didn’t lead to a release date like we hoped.
What do you think? Are you excited for the Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 next-gen updates? When do you think we’ll see gameplay footage for TW3? And what kind of improvements for both are you hoping for? Let us know!
