A while ago, CD Projekt Red announced that they are working on next-gen versions for their latest AAA titles. Originally, both were due out this year at some point, but the developers said they can't guarantee anything and as we get closer to the end, the studio has now revealed that both projects have officially been delayed until the first and second quarter of 2022.

Although the Cyberpunk 2077 next-gen version doesn’t affect PC players all that much (namely bringing enhanced visuals and features to next-gen consoles), The Witcher 3 next-gen edition is the big one, as this includes enhanced visuals like improved textures as well as ray tracing support and even new content.

We have an important update regarding the next generation updates of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt,” CDPR said in statement. “Based on recommendations supplied by teams supervising the development of both games, we decided to postpone their releases until 2022. Our current target for Cyberpunk 2077 is the first quarter of 2022, and second quarter of 2022 for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Apologies for the extended wait, but we want to make it right.

The CP2077 next-gen update should help PC players as well though, as it will likely move the game to a new version which would be based off of next-gen consoles rather than old-gen, improving performance and visuals slightly. TW3 on the other hand will provide massive visual improvements, but unfortunately that recent European rating didn’t lead to a release date like we hoped.

What do you think? Are you excited for the Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 next-gen updates? When do you think we’ll see gameplay footage for TW3? And what kind of improvements for both are you hoping for? Let us know!

Do you think the next gen updates of CP2077 and TW3 will be delayed again?

cb2077 is the new E.T. i expect to find the game in landfill 10 years down the line. and the Witcher never needed a re-release

Its fine. Cyberpunk is what it is and The Witcher 3 is a GOAT even in its current state with or without a few traced rays.

I mean delays for CP2077 is nothing new, but weren't witcher 3 next gen edition outsourced to other dev team?

I've already played the next-gen in the first edition. Not sure how they can improve it visually.

I'm not even mad lol. It's pointless waiting for games nowdays anyway. Game comes out at some point (which is easy to wait for because FOMO has no real power), give it 6-12 months for fixes and promised features to be implemented, buy then on a sale.

The only game I broke this rule with recently was D2R after the impressive Beta that I played. At my discretion I decided to buy it day1 and it works fine, bar a couple of crashes after particularly long play sessions. Before that it was DOOM Eternal in 2020, while it played fine and was a flawless experience start-to-finish, it still didn't have the promised raytracing until very recently (pointing back at that mandatory wait for promised features) and I got screwed because my pre-order code was on the Bethesda launcher, rather than on Steam. Always seem to get a dick for preordering...

depends where you preorder. If you preorder directly from steam/ea/betheseta/etc.. i doubt they would give you the game on another platform all tho i have never preordered a game via those platforms. Probably the first almost preorder game was starcraft 2 wings of liberty (i didnt knew what preorder was and i bought it a day after release) and probably call of duty black ops, but i doubt ive preoredered this.

I pre-ordered DOOM in our local physical store because I fancied a steelbook that came with it. I hoped that I'd get a Steam code, since all my other Bethesda pre-orders from that store were all Steam codes as well. But Bethesda decided that their own stupid storefront is the way to go now... So I have 2 games there now, DOOM Eternal and DOOM64 (which came with the Eternal pre-order).

Weird, people complains about diablo 2 being unpolished and have server issues

Most of those people complaining about servers are from the "land of the free" (free from healthcare, that is), not something I've experienced in Europe. There are a couple of small things to fix, but nothing major, the game works very well IMO.
