Rockstar has just released a brand new gameplay video for the upcoming remasters of the original 3D Grand Theft Auto games, and to our surprise the graphical improvements are much heavier than we initially thought. They also revealed the official PC system requirements, which are exactly the same as the leaked PC specs a few days ago.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition is officially launching for PC and consoles on November 11th. The new gameplay trailer highlights some notable graphical improvements over the originals, albeit for a very brief moment. Thankfully Rockstar also released some screenshots of the remasters to get a better idea of the remastered graphics.

There’s no doubt that the GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition graphics are very different from the originals, but are they necessarily better? That’s obviously going to be a subjective answer, and to a lot of people retro graphics have their own sort of style. The new versions place firmly in the ‘uncanny valley’ due to their snazzy updated visuals contrasted with the old models and design.

Unfortunately, for Steam players it looks like the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy Definitive Editions won’t be coming to Valve’s platform at launch, as it will only be available on the Rockstar Games Launcher on PC. It is coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch as well as PC for $60/£55. There’s also no mention of a free or even discounted upgrade for owners of the original games.

Specifically, the GTA Trilogy remasters will include many visual and other “enhancements”. Here’s a full list of all the changes and updates made to these new games…

Updated Player Experience making it easier than ever to play these classic games, including:

  • A GTAV-style controller layout
  • Improved gunplay and targeting controls, with upgraded drive-by controls in GTA: San Andreas
  • Updated Weapon and Radio Station selection wheels
  • Plus new Rockstar Games Social Club Accomplishments for members

Enhanced Visuals, with improved graphics and fidelity across all three games, including:

  • Higher resolution textures from characters to weapons, vehicles to roads, and much more for greater detail
  • A completely rebuilt lighting system with enhanced shadows, reflections, and more
  • Improved water and weather effects
  • Enhanced detail in trees and foliage
  • Increased draw distances to provide a new level of depth and definition

Plus Platform-Specific Features, including:

  • 4K-resolution support with up to 60 FPS performance for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X systems
  • NVIDIA DLSS support for PC
  • Touch screen camera zooming, pans and menu selections as well as Gyro aiming for the Nintendo Switch

Additionally, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition will launch on its own on Xbox Game Pass on November 11th, and the Grand Theft Auto III – The Definitive Edition will become available on PlayStation Now on December 7th.

If you want to get a true grasp on what the remasters will actually look like though, we’ll have to wait for some more gameplay than the brief snippets above. However, there are some official screenshots to take a look at which also show the new visuals, though unfortunately no comparison between the original graphics:

You know what? I think GTA 4 should get the remaster treating as well. Just how the visuals are slightly upgraded here, GTA 4 should have it as well, with proper optimization for pc.

I dont care what anybody says im excited for this.

I have mine lying around somewhere, tho the likelihood of them working is remote at best.

I hope it gets the GTA V gameplay and mechanics, but I doubt it. Not that I'm buying the trilogy, but still. XD

Not overly impressed, but it isn't bad either, though some stuff feel few things to be desired and just look bit off, like with old meets the new style of things. Also leaks with Unreal Engine, gameplay overhaul and stuff really didn't help with expectations either. But overall, it is ok, neither great nor bad, so I guess typical refresh the exact original type of remaster. I was kind of hoping for bit more effort.

Not excited not disapointed. Still would love so much see a GTA: SA REMAKE instead of a remastered. :/

Not worth of demanding requirements and price, modders would've done it better probably.

Guess they've pulled as much as they could out of this old engine and maybe limited one.

So, graphics wise it is what it is.

What I'm curious about on PC is the controls.

For the character, the shooting and the vehicles....

The character models look pretty much like they used to be.

But did Tommy Vercetti gain some weight?

So this is a 1 to 1 remaster? Cities will be comically small compared to todays games, replayed GTA:SA last year, 1 city is what feels like 5 by 5 blocks big. lol

big maps doesnt make games good tho

Didn't say maps need to be big to be good, but as I said replayed GTA:SA, it just felt strange and not right on a small map after years of maps getting bigger and bigger. Back then we didn't know bigger maps in GTA, but now it feels like being confined too much.

huh, interesting, because i replayed gta 3d trilogy recently and never noticed that it is small or anything. Maybe as you said depends on what games you play usually. For me i always prefer smaller map, but handcrafted and with greater attention to detail than big map but not so much in other aspects.

It really looks like doing a graphics mod job, but it all actually fits with each other. Seen so many youtube videos with more up to date graphics, but you can notice that the cars for example don't fit in the environment. This is spot on if you'd think it's a mod. Not what I expected from a true remaster, I thought they'd match the props more with how GTA 5 looks like, not just texture quality and lightning.

No wonder they tried to take down main gta mods, what they shown here looks a lot like those ENB mods lmao, they could have done a way better job with the models tho, the cars specialy and some other low polygon objects.

this looks like sh*t tbh, looks like those " X game remastered in unreal engine" fan made videos, which just make everything look shiny and smooth. Imo it completely kills the atmosphere of the originals.

San Andreas on Xbox GP day one? Hell yeah! I can kiss my social life goodbye because of the number of hours I'm likely to spend on it.

It will not be exclusive - neither EG or R* launcher. There was a tweet stating GTA Trilogy DE IDs were found on steamdb website. You can look that up. I'm just not sure if this trilogy worth 60 euros price. Seems pretty ok from trailer tho.

Feels like they took a page from the "EMB" guys' book and made everything extra shiny and wet xD

Also, is it just me or does Tommy look...fatter when his model is all rounded-off like that?

Rockstar games launcher though on PC... damn it...

well not everything there is shiny, if you look at photos there are plenty of examples, where asphalt is not wet and neither shiny

i think you misunderstood because most likely devs decided to capture those wet roads because they look the best or most flashy in screenshots, doesnt mean that they will always be wet and as i said there are photos where you can see dry roads which look normal, considering those graphics. I really dont get where are you going with this.

DUDE...

What I meant was that it's OBVIOUSLY not everywhere, but I can still complain about it if I find it a bit much. And the new reflectivity is "EMB" levels of much in my eyes. That's all.
