Darkest Dungeon was one of those indie hits that you wouldn’t expect, but no one could seemingly put it down after playing it. The ‘just one more’ attitude often resulted in late nights desperately trying to not die (again) because one of your party members had a terrible affliction. Now the sequel launches in Early Access tomorrow, and we finally have a first look at gameplay.
Darkest Dungeon 2 launches in Early Access tomorrow (October 26th) exclusively on the Epic Games Store. If you don’t like the idea of that, the developers have revealed it will only be exclusive as long as it’s in Early Access, so by the time it comes to Steam you can expect a full and mostly bug-free experience.
Obviously, one of the biggest stylistic differences in the sequel is the 3D look, but somehow it manages to look just right here even with all the new animations. Additionally, DD2 is now a full-on roguelike, with a branching stagecoach journey and no more procedurally-generated dungeons, unlike the original game which was much lighter on those mechanics.
What do you think? Are you excited for Darkest Dungeon 2? Will you be getting the game on the Epic Games Store first? Or will you wait until a Steam release? Let us know!
