Facebook (now known simply as ‘Meta’) has been slowly cornering the VR market with the focus on their Oculus Quest headsets (now known as ‘Meta Quest’). After recently porting over an old and beloved Capcom title to VR, the company now has their sights on the next big VR port: GTA San Andreas.
“This new version of what I think is one of the greatest games ever made will offer players an entirely new way to experience this iconic open world in virtual reality,” said Mark Zuckerberg during the recent Facebook Connect livestream. And according to a blog post by Oculus, the project has been “many years in the making.”
We don’t have any details yet on gameplay, nor any screenshots or trailers unfortunately. So it’s unclear whether it will be the original San Andreas or the newly remastered version in the upcoming Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition, though that is most likely the case.
We also don’t know what kind of VR port it will be, like whether it will be first-person or include motion controls, and we have no idea when it will be released. Though it is highly likely to be an Oculus exclusive title. Thankfully, Oculus has listened to feedback, and will be dropping the required Facebook login on Oculus VR headsets.
