The latest entry in the Battlefield series may have already been out for a week for those that pre-ordered the Special Editions, but it only officially launched the other day. So now that there are more people playing, and with some updates since the Early Access launch, we want to know how are you finding Battlefield 2042 so far?
I’m sure many of us have seen the discourse online following the BF2042 Early Access launch, and may have been a bit worried about the worldwide official launch on Friday. So hopefully for those of you that cancelled your pre-order, or are on the fence about getting it, this article can provide a general consensus on what the GD community thinks about Battlefield 2042.
And for those of you who have already bought and played it, whether it was worth it and lives up to the name, or whether this is just another disappointing Battlefield release.
Of course, no new Battlefield would be complete without controversy at launch. The fact that at launch there are a lot of complaints, only to evaporate close to when the next one comes out, shows a consistent pattern. Whether that says more about the developers or the community fanbase is up for debate.
But at the end of the day, we just want a game to be fun. So does it really matter if some systems and mechanics have been downgraded or even removed altogether? Maybe it does, maybe it doesn’t, that’s why we have these debates. But in the end what matters most is are you having fun with the latest release?
What do you think? How are you finding Battlefield 2042 so far? Are you enjoying it? Or is it mostly frustrating you? And why? Is it because of core gameplay mechanics, or a buggy launch? Do the weapons and vehicles feel good to use? Or like wet cardboard? And has it improved since the Beta? Let’s debate!

old battelfield is gone guys worse battelfield ever
PC Specs
This can't even be called Battlefield, they removed all the features that was Battlefield
PC Specs
Wait, what did they remove?
PC Specs
Pretty much nothing that was "Battlefield" was removed, they removed other stuff which was always expected from a shooter, though, like leaning, a working scoreboard, all chat, stats page... What made battlefield a battlefield is still there: destruction, massive all-out combat, vehicles, big maps. That's still there. It's full of moaners on all the forums because that's the norm in 2021, to cry.
PC Specs
well scoreboards, stat pages and such are pointless, so it's up to the people to decide if they should be in games, I personally like them as a I like statistics.
Leaning is dealy missed by me, but the funny thing is that people hated it all this time and now it's gone and they want it back?
PC Specs
And yes, I'm against all this complaining and crying about everything from people nowadays, while doing nothing. They think life is ideal and it's not and they should either get tough or well keep crying, let's see which one actually helps them.

It's so bad I just stopped playing It and came back to BF4. Booting up BF4 after 2042 feels like a cleansing. 2042 is full of bugs, but the biggest problem is that it doesn't even feel like Battlefield. That's something they won't be able to fix in a few months.

Battlefield 1 > BF V > BF 2042
I feel like Battlefield 1 was last one to have something, they ruined BF V with inaccurate historical stuff, mechanics, and now BF 2042, expected to be comeback, turned into crap even more. Recreating same maps with worse graphics, like, going backwards or something, and then all the bugs, making this game for 2-3 years? CoD has its flaws too, but they're making game every year, game sells, because, no matter what crap Activision makes, its gonna be sold. Battlefield 2042 just buried itself, like eFootball 2022
PC Specs
Strongly disagree. I found BF1 horrible. It just felt like throwing myself into a wall of spikes the entire time. BFV was, for the most part, incredibly fun with some really fun maps. Historical accuracies aren't really something I care about if the end result is they make the game less fun to play.
I really enjoyed, pretty much, everything BFV had on offer.
2042 is just... Ugh...
PC Specs
BF1 was very weak overall. The bullet spread, the lack of weapons and customizations, the vehicles were too strong and poorly balanced, just overall a great game with very poor design choices.
BF5 launched unfinished, but everything in it is just better than BF1 and in mid-late 2019, after it was properly finished, it became an amazing game. And the inaccurate historical stuff, isn't completely inaccurate, the problem is why they focused on it and it's battlefield, if realism is what you want, you got the wrong game.
BF5 had minimal bullet spread, it was almost all recoil. The attachments were back, the weapons are better balanced, the vehicles aren't op as hell. The maps are even better, even though BF1 had great maps. It's just Battlefield done right, but 1 year after it released.

I ordered the $90 version so I could play a week early. Game wasn't bad from the start, then the Devs decided to screw over an entire (large) group of people by limiting unlocks and progression through Portal/Solo. After that I got a refund through Steam.
Huge BF fan but man they really stepped in some !^%# with this launch... Once they fix it I'll be back, but I'm only going to purchase again if I catch it on sale. I had high hopes but all the !^%# they're pulling for Early access finally rubbed me the wrong way
PC Specs
I just wish people would one day realise pre-ordering will only encourage them to release unfinished games
PC Specs
I'd agree but that is also why we have refund on Steam :D
I had 23 hours in 2042 before submitting a refund request, got approved in a few hour
PC Specs
They need to cut everyting from the game and just leave protal. Add all 1942, BC2 and 3 content and watch as the money and positive reviews come flowing in
PC Specs
Even if you don't look at all the bugs and technical issues, there just doesn't seem to be a good game underneith all that.
The gigantic maps and 128 players on a server just don't really work well, the specialists are unnecessary and make even less people care about healing, reviving or providing ammo, and overall I can't imagine that this was properly playtested.
It's so painfully obvious that they're trying to appeal to the fortnite generation by making everything bigger and faster and adding "heros" with cringy catchphrases, but for me they've forgotten what a battlefield game used to be.
A lot of the issues are conscious design decisions, not just bugs that they can fix.
PC Specs
It needs (a lot of) tweaks, but I like it. There's been better BF launches before, but I like this one more overall.
PC Specs
Skipping it for this game does not appeal to me for a lot of reasons I probably don't need to repeat. Portal is the only reason why I'd pick it up on sale and that's assuming they continue to update and add content/evolve it in a meaningful way, as I'm a sucker for custom games thanks to Halo. Not that I can run the game anyway with my aging i5 3570k (waiting for Zen 4). With the way a lot of games (especially so-called AAA games) are releasing nowadays (even without the pandemic), Frankly, I'm contemplating on giving gaming a break for a while as I've been disappointed more often than not (excluding RDR2 and Sony's games).
Having played it on my cousin's PS5 again before he refunded it: Hazard Zone seems DOA, AOW has a lot of issues, and the maps in general need a lot of work, as they are too open, big, and empty for the most part even with 128 players and devolve into running sims (they should've stuck with 64 or 80 something and evolved the destruction, density, and complexity of the maps, rather than downgrade everything to get 128 players). A lot of my problems with the game cannot be easily fixed without time ( and some probably never will be), so I'll check back in about 6-12 months and see where they are at, but I'm not expecting a lot.
PC Specs
Yeah, the maps have way too much empty space. Some of the pushes you have to do in Breakthrough are essentially just a no mans land sprint. Whoever designed not only the levels, but the placement of some objectives, should be forced to find a new job, because they're woefully incompetent at the one they have.
PC Specs
I'm enjoying playing solo vs bots so far. It's great. I haven't encountered any bugs there, no bad hit registration, appropriate amount of players on a map, no horrible people taking advantage of glitches. It's the most fun I've had in a battlefield since the last 10 years or so
PC Specs
Are the bots any good?
PC Specs
Very good surprisingly! On harder difficulty they are a challenge, but somehow they feel real. They don't see you through walls or bushes, but can shoot at you from long distances. They even have a personality ( One time this bot was driving a car, parked it next to me and Honked at me to get in) I'm having a blast with them, while also unlocking attachments to my guns.
PC Specs
Cheers mORTcube, sounds good. I am tempted, I'll wait until it gets patched a bit, I'm in no rush.
PC Specs
Been having fun and looking forward to the improvements. It may become the best Battlefield in time.
PC Specs
It's a really fun broken mess. I do not regret buying it, but it needs a few updates.
PC Specs
Battlefield contuining the trend of being released a year before it gets good.
The last battlefield game that was actually good and without needing serious adjustments when it launched was Battlefield 3, and that really sucks. BF4, 1 and V all took about a year of updates and DLC before becoming the games they are now.
I hope the same happens with 2042, because i'm not buying it until then
PC Specs
Played for 8 hours and I don't want to play it again. If I should write a list of what is wrong in this game, it will be the long one, I think someone wrote it on Steam in review. BUT - Portal saved the day. The 1942 gameplay with old maps is great and if the game was a remake of BF1942 with this gameplay and graphics, I will be satisfied. (don't know how it was in BFV, I never played this one)
PC Specs
BF5 became much better than BF1 mid life cycle, but people didn't care much for it. Currently BFV is great.
PC Specs
Oh, thanks for info. I should try it.
PC Specs
The best part is that your gun shoots where you point it at, a.k.a the bullet spread is minimal to none, it's (almost)all recoil. And the maps are just great and better than BF1, especially for the smaller game modes, they've outdone themselves in BF5.
PC Specs
Specialists have no place in Battlefield, the vehicles are more OP than ever, the AI should have been better, maps are good, but could be a lot better, bugs don't really bother me much. The hit detection is dog crap... I knew that this game should have been delayed by a year... oh well... Halo it is.
