Battlefield 2042 is getting a major game update in December to fix numerous issues

It’s safe to say that the latest entry in the Battlefield series hasn’t exactly gone down very well with a lot of fans, proving to be a pretty divisive entry in the franchise. Despite all the negative reaction though, the developers at DICE are committed to improving the game’s buggy launch, as well as addressing some player feedback.

This Thursday (tomorrow, November 25th), DICE is releasing Update #2 for Battlefield 2042 that will include various fixes like reducing bullet spread on all weapons whilst aiming down sights and moving, improved accuracy whilst stationary for “many weapons”, improved accuracy for single shot and burst fire weapons, and increased vertical recoil on the PP-29 so that it “does not overperform when engaging outside of its intended combat range.

Other fixes in the Update #2 patch include nerfs to the LCAA Hovercraft and MD540 Nightbird, more fixes and improvements to weapons and Battlefield Portal, as well as fix for that very annoying bug that prevented players from being revived “when a Soldier dies close to an object, or wall.

However, a third even bigger update for BF2042 is planned for sometime in December. Although the fixes mentioned above are certainly welcome, Update #3 will include “Over 150 individual fixes” specifically for maps alone, with hundreds of other improvements in other areas of the game like gunplay, UI, matchmaking, PC performance, progression, and so on.

The list of fixes coming in Update #3 for Battlefield 2042 is pretty long, so you can check out the full blog post here and scroll down a bit to find the full list of changes.

Interestingly, DICE has acknowledged a lot of player concerns regarding fundamental game design and certain “legacy features” players have asked for. However, they likely won’t be changing any of the core mechanics like the Specialist system or map design:

End-of-match Scoreboard, Server Browser, and features like Voice Chat are big topics for us to cover all at once, and we have plenty we want to say around them," the developers said. "We’ll come back to you when we have things that we can show to you, including details about our long-term vision for certain features and functions.

What do you think? Have you been playing Battlefield 2042 recently? What do you think of it? Will these changes help? Or do you think the damage has already been done? Which improvement/fix are you most excited for? Let us know!

Do you think these fixes and improvements can save BF2042 from launch?

How much have you been playing BF2042 since launch?

Some things they should make optional/fix:

  • Having to listen to the specialists at the end of a round, shouldn't be mandatory, feel like I'm playing APEX or Overwatch and I hate it.

  • Specialists in general, while fun I just want to play a normal foot soldier and not have to constantly think about picking specialists.

  • Solo/Coop/Portal were all screwed up day 2 of early access and devs refused to acknowledge or answer anything about the solo side.

  • Some hit detection issues and for whatever reason they took the marksman bonus out.

  • No scoreboard? Really? Also who decided to disable "All" talk in game?

Those were the major things I did not care for, otherwise I loved the game. Refunded when they decided to screw up half the game though, I'll just buy it on sale at this point.

The game has performance issues. It has a little cringe (GAAH ANGEL DOES IT AGAIN!)...but it is fun and that is most important .The scale of the battles and the ebb and flow of combat is new. In other shooters and BF games there are certain patterns in battle that emerge. In 2042 it feels more fluid and the action is dynamic. It isn't sweaty either, so you can chill and play.

Not sweaty? Breakthrough objectives on top of buildings want to talk to you. If your team isn't a bunch of sweats, you're not getting those objectives.

games fine for me, only had 1 server not connect error and maybe the gun spray but then that could be me being bad. performance is fine my end no stuttering cant really complain. I don't see the problem with the different chars, kinda fun. game doesn't deserve the hate IMO. could EA/dice do better? maybe. have they done worse before? most definitely

Really dislike the modern cycle of release now, fix later by most major AAA studios and no effort put into single player campaign. They are probably under pressure of publishers but man, gone are the days when games are polished (enough) at launch and are enjoyable playing solo.

Love how there is no consensus on this game anywhere. One guy in the comments is talking about how he's been "playing it every day and absolutely loving it" then then other dude says "game is beyond repair" there's either some major hate or fanboying going on smh.

Just goes to show how divisive the game is and how different peoples' standards and preferences are.

Crybaby standards aren't better than fan standards, though.

Don't really care for the update tbh. I've been playing everyday since I bought it and I'm absolutely loving it. And that's saying something, since I can't remember the last time in my gaming life that I've played one game for more than 3 days in a row haha. The solo/coop mode vs bots is absolutely amazing.

This game is beyond repair if you ask me.

A lot of the fundamental design decisions just don't work, it's not just technical issues.

It seems like these days you first release a game, and then develop it. And they wonder why their customers are pissed.

This game needs a re-release.
