This week is a big one for CD Projekt Red, as the studio has revealed a lot of interesting details about their upcoming projects as well as ongoing development for their already launched games. Recently, the company stated that they are on track for the next-gen updates of Cyberpunk and Witcher, and even a rough release window for each.

Cyberpunk 2077 next-gen edition will launch in Q1 2022 (along with the next major update, Patch 1.5), whilst The Witcher 3 next-gen version will arrive sometime in Q2 2022. Both titles are apparently “on track to meet their target dates.” But of course, this is CDPR we’re talking about here, so the potential for another delay is still there.

Those dates may not be very exciting on their own, so perhaps more interesting is the company’s reaffirmation that they will be slowly introducing multiplayer elements into their two main franchises: Cyberpunk and Witcher. However, they will still focus on AAA single-player games.

We are planning to add multiplayer functionality in the future to both franchises, including Cyberpunk, gradually,” said Adam Kicinski, President of CD Projekt.

We are not revealing which franchise will get the first multiplayer functionalities but the first attempt will be something we can learn from and then add more and more, so step by step we want to open doors to multiplayer, but adding some multiplayer activities gradually.

Let’s stress this here, CD Projekt Red makes single player story-driven AAA RPGs – that is not changing. What is changing is our long-term approach to online,” Kicinski added. “And by this, we mean ensuring we are properly prepared to implement online elements in our games where they make sense. We don’t want to go overboard or lose our single player DNA.

Originally, CP2077 was supposed to be followed up with Cyberpunk Online, which we had very little details of already, but one could assume it would try to replicate the same experience as GTA Online. However, the project was cancelled in the wake of Cyberpunk 2077’s troubled launch. But whatever is added to Cyberpunk and The Witcher in the future, it sounds like it won’t affect the single-player experience if you don’t want it to.

What do you think? Are you excited for the next-gen versions of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3? How do you feel about multiplayer elements being added gradually? What could they include? Let us know!

Which next gen version are you most interested in?

How do you feel about multiplayer elements being added slowly?

While i don't play multiplayer at all it would be interesting to see co-op in witcher. With hopefully new quest made for two or more players and maybe some PvP sprinkled on top.

The mane campain could be a problem with some quests being focused on Geralt only

Sounds fun exploring the open-world with a buddy.

*inserts "but why?" meme here*

MP is a waste of time and resources, Specially for such a story focused single-player game.

Not really interested into multiplayer, but I had feeling they won't want to drop those big microtransaction opportunities... no offense, but considering all lies we got from them, I wouldn't be surprised if they went for whole GTA Online cash grab thing... Personally I would rather see them rework all bad systems and make CP into proper great game it was supposed to be, not just tweaking things, so issues become maybe little less noticeable, like teleporting police in bit further away.

What will be there for those of us who have CP 2077 on PC? It will be nice of them to optimize the game further.
