With less than a year now until Bethesda’s next big game comes out, a new video has been released teasing many more cryptic details about the game, along with more concept art. Perhaps surprisingly, given Bethesda’s more outlandish IPs like The Elder Scrolls and Fallout, Starfield will be more grounded than their previous titles.

There’s a lot of interesting moments in the video talking about how they thought about designing the world ofStarfield, and it comes across a lot like the ‘every button was custom designed’ speech for the launch of Fallout 4. It’s all very magical, but it’s hard to get a gauge on how much of it is just pre-marketing hype or genuine excitement. Take a look at the new video below:

There’s still a focus on exploration, with some elements from their previous titles remaining like world interaction, the first person perspective (though, assumedly you can change to third person at any time), and what Todd Howard mentioned as these special “step out” moments in all of their games.

We always have that 'step out' moment into the world, so to say,” Todd Howard said. “The technology has changed. We've all changed. So our expectations when loading up a game, like, 'Okay, I'm going to step out and there's going to be this moment.' Us being able to do that and have it feel new every generation, every game, is something that is really special about what we do.

I like to say that Starfield has two 'step out' moments. That's cryptic.

We have still yet to see any actual gameplay, and don’t expect it anytime soon. More than likely we’ll get our first glimpse during E3 2022 or around that time. But for now, it is at least exciting based on the prospect, but will fans take to the hype after so many disappointing launches in the past few years?

What do you think? Are you excited for Starfield? How do you feel about the new concept art? What are you most interested about the game? What would you like to see changed/added/return compared to previous Bethesda titles? Let us know!

What do you think of the new Starfield concept art?

Are you keeping your excitement tempered or giving in to the hype?

I will be pleasantly surprised if it has more roleplaying elements than Fallout 4. Considering the trajectory of their games i expect an open world space shooter with some minor character progression systems so they can slap the RPG word in the tags and get some extra rewards. Also the pronouns thing they decided to make a big deal of (otherwise it wouldnt be worth mentioning in their marketing) makes me worried its going to have external politics (external as in current day) projected into the game to appease the twitter pronoun crowd. Now hopefully they stopped at the pronouns so they dont get !^%#ted upon by gaming news and social media activists like other companies do (which is also doing disservice to marginalized individuals because its not genuine and its done only for marketing these days).

I am cautiously optimistic about it.

Pre-release trailers and other material always looks great, since it is just marketing material No noteworthy developer ever goes straight to crowd and says "look at this random cool thing I thought I would share...". If they are doing something like that today, it had to go through and be approved by management, marketing, probably few other people and was modified to suit all their needs. So it doesn't really tell you much about the actual product. But of course, it does indeed look great. That being said, it is important to also keep above in mind and keep your expectations and hype in check. Yes, I really want to see how Starfield turns out too, but we have yet to see if Bethesda can deliver. You know, hope for the best, prepare for the worst.
