Razer next-gen gaming laptops might be getting a significant price increase amid shortages

Razer may not have the most love from the PC gaming community, but their products have been a staple of PC gaming for a long time. They also happen to make some gaming laptops that regularly make it into the lists of best gaming laptops to buy. But coming next year, we may see a significant rise in prices.

Min-Liang Tan, the CEO of Razer, recently came clean about the potential price rise on Twitter. So far, laptops haven’t seen nearly as much of inflated prices as other desktop PC components have, like graphics cards. But it seems like the shortages are now affecting manufacturers for all types of electronic hardware, including the Razer Blade gaming laptops.

Just had a long meeting to review our gaming laptops line for next year” Min-Liang Tan said. “looks like there are significant increases in component costs etc and we'll be seeing price increases for next gen gaming laptops across the board (including the @Razer Blade) next year.

The good thing at least is that we know about it. Rarely ever do we see someone like a CEO express openly and honestly about their products and price increases. It shouldn’t affect laptops as they are now though, so if you’ve been thinking of picking one up it might be best to do so before any more GPUs like the RTX 40 series get revealed.

What do you think? Do you use a gaming laptop or desktop? Or even both? How do you feel about the price rises possibly coming next year? Is now a good time to get a gaming laptop? Or is it still worth waiting for desktop PC parts instead? Let us know your thoughts!

Do you own a Desktop or Laptop PC?

What would your advice be now to new PC gamers?

I like the "do not buy anything". It's like: it's all way too expensive, just like houses these days.

I have a laptop, both for work and gaming, but I want a desktop so much. I'm moving a lot and traveling between two countries a couple of times per year, so a laptop is a necessity. I'm dreaming of my work/gaming station, hopefully, it will become a reality soon. I had to replace my old laptop since the hinges got broken. I bought Lenovo Legion 5 with RTX 3070 for 1550 €, got a good deal for Black Friday, and I checked the price and it's 2400 € now for the same laptop. Crazy!

Razer brand motto - blowing smoke up our on a$$ and then shoving our own head up so-called smoked a$$ since our inception. Fcking Apple wannabes.

I own only desktop, However I do have laptop for work that I got from employer. It technically isn't my, since I would have to return it, if I quit the job. We got laptops due to lockdowns, so we could work from home. But for gaming and free time I use PC.

As for what I would advise, that entirely depends on person. I mean right now, I would definitely advise against paying exorbitant prices for graphic cards. Unless you got some reason you really badly need it now, in which case you are screwed, but if you need it, you need it, nothing you can do here. Outside that between laptop and desktop, I would advise based on needs. If you need it on the go and mobile for some reason, get laptop. If you will use it mostly at home to just game and do work behind desk, get desktop. With desktop you can get more customization and more powerful hardware. But that won't help you , if you also need to be able to carry it around and use it on the go. However for home, if you just need portable browser and something to play videos, tablets aren't all that expensive and you can reap benefits of desktop. And for current time, wait for PC vs get laptop now, I would return to what I said early on, do you need it right now and your need is big enough to settle for what you can get? If yes, I dunno why we are even talking about it, you need it. If not, I would recommend waiting. Especially if you got something you can make do with till then. This whole price bubble won't last forever. Even if corporations will definitely abuse it to get even more filthy rich. So if you can, hang on. If not, there is no shame in that either. Our lives are finite and I can totally understand, if you rather spend time you got having fun, instead of pushing against current price madness. Just don't try to justify it as smart thing, people too often forget that you can technically just say "I wanted it, I got money I am not spending on other stuff and it makes me happy". Nothing wrong with not having some grand justification.
