Happy New Year everyone! As our first official Up For Debate of 2022 we wanted to cast back and look at the past year in gaming. More specifically, we wanted to know what were your top 3 games of the year in 2021? And was it a good year for gaming?

It may not have been the best year for gaming in terms of quantity of releases, but there were still some great games that came out nonetheless. Obviously everyone’s subjective opinions will be different, but maybe you stumbled across something that really caught your eye and you think was terribly underappreciated. Either way let us know your own personal top 3 games of 2021!

For instance, my own personal top 3 games of 2021 are as follows:

  1. Resident Evil 8
  2. Deathloop
  3. Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy

I have to admit though, I’m a sucker for Survival Horror, quirky adventures, and all things Marvel, so my top 3 might not come as a surprise.

As 2022 rolls on though, we have some pretty awesome games to get excited about, and this year there are loads of new titles to be anticipated for. So maybe next year’s top 3 games of 2022 will be a lot harder for many of us.

But for now, let us know your top 3 games of 2021! Was it a hard pick? Was it a good year for games despite not that many AAA titles coming out? Are you excited for 2022? What’s your most anticipated game this year? Let’s debate!

Was 2021 a good year for gaming?

How many great games did you have to pick your Top 3 from?

What genre did you play or enjoy the most in 2021?

I mostly played Diablo II: Resurrected.

At this point in the gaming world it feels like most systems have been explored. I do like having better graphics, but the underlying core to types games has generally been made before. I know what I like and most new games are merely variations...and often worse.

Forza 5, Nier Replicant and The Ascent (although the latter one is buggy af, still enjoyed it, decent indie game). All in all, terrible year for gaming.

AAA titles are for the last past years are mostly garbage or mediocre. My best 3 picks are of course Take Two, Chronicles of Myrtana(standalone mod) and Mundaun(obscure horror game).

Resident Evil 8 is a good game, but a crappy RE game. And it’s a horror game but not a survival horror game

Deathloop was ok but nowhere near the level of Arkane’s work before Colantonio left

It was truly a !^%#ty year for games

It's funny because it was only this past summer that I got into PC gaming and most of the games I've been playing are either from a generation or two ago and yet they look better than anything I played on my PS3/PS4, haha. I've yet to play anything from the past year.

  1. Scarlet Nexus

  2. Knockout City (Played with a bunch of friends so that's fun)

  3. Metroid Dread

I might have put Eastward and Guardians of the Galaxy on my list but I didn't have enough time to get to them this year. Also played a lot of Phantasy Star Online 2 NGS but they are only just now adding new content. Also Forza Horizon 5 is definitely the reason I snagged a new GPU and CPU this year.

now whenn i look at the games of 2021 and was barelly able to find 3 that i played: Back 4 Blood, The Medium, Valheim

2021 was the year where i was playing old franchises that i never finished in full like Risen, FarCry, Wolfenstain, Splinter Cell and few more, + a lot of doom clones for some reason i am curently a lot into them

I think it was a great year for video games, it's only the top dog franchises that failed and not all of them.

Age of Empires 4, Halo Infinite, Forza Horizon 5, Psychonauts 2, It takes two, valheim, tales of arise, the remade Mass Effect Legendary Edition, Kena Bridge of Spirits, The Gunk all fantastic games that I played.

And from the ones I didn't play: Metroid Dread, Ratchet and Clank A rift apart, Monster Hunter Rise, hitman 3, Guardians of the Galaxy, Scarlet Nexus, Chivalry 2, FF:XIV Endwalker, I'm sure those games are great and will for sure play them one day.
