This week saw two highly anticipated games finally making their way to PC after being a console exclusive. In the tradition of recently released games, we want to know your thoughts on them, and today more specifically about the latest Monster Hunter title that was originally on the Nintendo Switch for nearly a year.

Monster Hunter Rise originally launched on the Nintendo Switch on March 26th 2021, and was the highly anticipated follow up to Monster Hunter World. And just like MH World, it took a while for it to make its way to the PC platform. Was it worth it in the end? Are you enjoying it more than World? We want to know all your thoughts!

Whether you prefer the previous game or are enjoying the new one more, it’s clear that fans are enjoying both very much. Monster Hunter Rise is currently sitting at a “Very Positive” rating on Steam with 81% positive reviews, whereas Monster Hunter World has 86% positive reviews but also with a “Very Positive” rating. The former also has an 87 rating on Metacritic for PC, and the latter scored an 88. So both are rated pretty highly.

Of course this time round, Capcom seems to be a tad bit more prepared for the PC launch, as the major expansion Sunbreak will release for both Switch and PC at the same time. Unlike Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, which took a little while longer to reach PC compared to the Switch.

So what do you think of Monster Hunter Rise so far? Are you enjoying it? Did you play it on Switch already or is the PC version your first playthrough? And are you enjoying it more or less compared to Monster Hunter World? Let’s debate!

What do you think of Monster Hunter Rise on PC so far?

What is the PC performance like for you?

Is the PC version your first playthrough or did you already play on Switch?

Do you think Monster Hunter Rise is better or worse than Monster Hunter World on PC?

Been playing for 3 days non stop, i'd say so far so good. To name the major things that i didn't like :

1) Lack of meal. You can only eat Dango.

2) The map feels empty. It feels like empty corridor connected with each other. Imagine it like Dynasty Warriors Map. It's not like MHW map where it's teeming with life and vegetations and small monsters that actually makes the map feels so alive. No interactible environment like falling boulders to harm monsters or something like that.

3) Gathering points and plants are too far apart from each other.

That being said, we need to bear in mind that the game was built around Switch which is known to be an inferior hardware, so it's no surprise if Capcom had to cut some corners. It kinda sucks tho.

I'm a long-time MH fan and Rise definitely suffers from oversized maps. Why? To funnel in the dog mounts. Previous PSP and Switch games were not too different from World in terms of map sizes and monsters roaming around, gathering points everywhere, etc. But then Rise just threw away meals, gathering and made the maps oversized so you ride the dog or use the bugs.

First MH title that, after trying, I really don't care for. My missis is the same. Kinda sad...

The reason the maps are connected by empty tunnels, is that originally the game was meant to have zones with loading screens, like previous games. It's kinda hard to believe, given the way it's ended up, but that's the way it goes.

They redid everything after the success of World and the praise for it's massive maps without loading screens. Ichinose himself said it.

Had it been designed with massive maps from the get go, then they probably would have been a little more fleshed out.

I'm not a big fan of the dango myself either. The massive lavish meals have been a MH staple since the very first game. It's a shame they thought Rise didn't need the same lunacy.

I don't feel the gathering points are too far spread out. They're about as frequent as they were in World. Unless you mean different types of gathering spots?

I will tell you, if I don't forget, when I get to play in next month after I've passed all my exams 😂

Definitely better on PC for the frame rate alone. 30fps cap with frame drops in many cases made it so sluggish and janky to play. In 60fps it's so smooth and feels so much better. Never mind the HQ textures, which are also great.

Are you not able to go past 60Hz? The game supports high refresh rates.

I only have a 60 Hz monitor. As far as I'm aware, it's uncapped.

I've tried many times to convince myself to buy this game, because I love MHW, but I just can't. The world which I saw on YT videos feels so empty, with washed sorrow colors... Gameplay can be awesome, but I don't feel this game like I want it to play. :( I am little dissapointed, I wanted new MH game a lot.

There are two different teams. World was built for consoles first, where as Rise was built for Switch first. The next game is by the team that made World, so in ~2024/25(latest) you can expect another full on MH game like World was.

It really depends on ur expectations, since I started monster hunter back in the day on the PS2, the world in Rise feels so alive to me. Cheers!

The maps feel oversized because of the forced use of the dog/wirebug. Those two things I disliked very much and I'm a fan from the old days as well (PSP/3DS/Switch, though, as I didn't have a PS2)

I also started on the PS2. Compared to back then, it's a little more alive (though only a little). Compared to World, it's dead, which is what the community will compare every game against from here on out, like it or not.

It's more of a hack and slay at this point, just brainless bashing. Been a fan from the beginning, even bought a 3DS, PS4 and Switch just to play the games, but the series sadly is going downhill.

It feels very weird being in the spot where I just don't like it, but then most people do like it. I would have put it down as "maybe I don't like it as an old MH fan" but then others also say to be fans for a long time and they love this one. It just feels too empty and too weeb for me at this point.

It's about as weeb as GU with all the flashy cooldown skills and what not. I've been playing since the very first game on PS2, and the reason I love World so much is it drops all the dumb !^%# they had been implementing, that Rise promptly added back in.

I'll take the opinion to the grave that Monster Hunter is not a game that should have cooldown skills.

You could argue the clutch claw in IB was a bit far-fetched, but at least for almost every weapon it's functionality was weaved into your combos.

We can take a lot forward from Rise though. I think being able to customise your moveset makes weapons feel personal, and I'd like to see that further expanded upon.

I love the Hunter Connect feature. It's one of the easiest ways ever to have a group and quickly play together.

This Monster Hunter definitely feels different from World and I think it's a good thing. BUT it's really hard to give up the amazing graphics and textures we got in World (Plus the High res texture pack) but in the actual combat I do prefer Rise a little bit more for my weapon. Axe Hopper just feels awesome on Charge blade.
