The latest spin-off in the Rainbow Six franchise has just launched on PC and Game Pass, and considering it is built from the foundations of R6 Siege, we should expect similar performance, right? Or does the improved graphics, new mechanics, and co-operative rather than competitive play mean this latest title is a little more demanding? We take a look at some GPU performance benchmarks for Rainbow Six Extraction...

First of all, in this PC performance benchmark article for Rainbow Six Extraction, we benchmark a range of graphics cards going from the higher-end RTX 3070, which is close to the recommended GPU for 4K Ultra settings; to the mid-range GTX 1060, which is close to the recommended GPU for 1080p High settings; and finally down to the lower-end AMD Radeon R9 380, to see whether lower-spec cards can run R6 Extraction at a playable performance.

Then we go through the FPS test results of each graphics card running at 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen resolutions. From there we can see the performance of the minimum and recommended system requirement graphics cards and consider how well optimized Rainbow 6 Extraction really is.

Fortunately for us, R6 Extraction includes an FPS benchmark tool, and in our testing we found it to be pretty representative of overall performance in-game. The benchmark tool takes a route from outside a building, sweeping inside and around some enemies whilst various pieces of debris explode every so often, before finally coming to a stop outside.

Additionally, Rainbow Six Extraction includes an extremely wide range of graphical presets, including: Ultra Low, Very Low, Low, Medium, High, Very High, and Ultra. In our testing we found these presets to be a little strange, as Ultra Low and Very Low performed very similar to each other. Then Low, Medium, and High all performed similarly too.

Rainbow Six Extraction graphics preset comparison (RTX 3070, 4K):

Rainbow Six Extraction Ultra Low Very Low Low Medium High Very High Ultra
Average FPS 110.4 106.2 85.2 84.9 84.5 77.9 70.3
Min FPS 73.3 63.6 58 59.1 55.9 53.8 39.4
Max FPS 141.5 139.5 107.6 104.4 106.9 96 85.9
1% Low FPS 73.2 64.5 58.9 59.5 56.4 53.7 41
0.1% Low FPS 66.8 61.5 55 51.2 49.3 51.8 37.5

Therefore, considering that several of the graphics presets perform similarly to each other, we have only benchmarked 4 of the 7 presets available for all the remaining GPUs: Ultra Low, Medium, Very High, and Ultra. This way you will be able to easily estimate what kind of performance you can expect with the presets in-between.

With that in mind, let's jump into the PC performance benchmarks for Rainbow Six Extraction...

1% Low FPS 69.4 52.9 40.5 29.5
0.1% Low FPS 64.5 47.7 38.5 27.7

The GTX 1060's FPS performance in Rainbow Six Extraction at 1080p is pretty good, although it drops below 60fps on Very High settings and higher, but stays around 50fps still. This means the GTX 1060 is suitable for playing R6 Extraction at 1080p up to Ultra graphics settings depending on your preference.

Average FPS for Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 in Rainbow Six Extraction @ 1440p

Rainbow Six Extraction Ultra Low Medium Very High Ultra
Average FPS 59 49.4 38.2 33.8

1% Low FPS 42.8 33.1 26.2 18.4
0.1% Low FPS 39.4 30.9 24.6 16.7

The GTX 1060's FPS performance at 1440p in Rainbow Six Extraction is not bad, though the frame rate drops down to around 30fps on the higher settings. Therefore, the GTX 1060 is suitable for playing R6 Extraction at 1440p up to Ultra graphics settings, though for a more stable close to-60fps experience you will need to stay on the lower settings like Medium or lower.

Average FPS for Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 in Rainbow Six Extraction @ 4K

Rainbow Six Extraction Ultra Low Medium Very High Ultra
Average FPS 28.8 22.7 19.5 16.2
Min FPS 21.1 14.2 13.9 7.8
Max FPS 36.1 31.3 27.1 24.3

0.1% Low FPS 20.2 13.8 13.6 6.6

The FPS performance of the GTX 1060 at 4K in Rainbow Six Extraction is not great, achieving unplayable frame rates even on the Ultra Low graphics settings. At this point, the FPS can negatively impact your personal performance in-game, so it is not recommended to play R6 Extraction at 4K on a GTX 1060.

Overall, the GTX 1060 handles Rainbow Six Extraction pretty well, and can easily be played at Ultra graphics settings at 1080p, and up to Ultra settings at 1440p depending on your preference. However, it is not recommended to play Rainbow 6 Extraction at 4K on a GTX 1060, as this will result in very low and unplayable frame rates.

1% Low FPS 19.8 17.5 9.6 8.8
0.1% Low FPS 16.3 12.4 8.5 8.3

The FPS performance of the R9 380 at 1080p in Rainbow Six Extraction is not too bad, and can easily be played up to Medium graphics settings for the most comofrtable experience. However, going above Medium settings results in unplayable frame rates. Therefore the R9 380 is suitable for playing R6 Extraction up to Medium graphics settings at 1080p.

Overall, the R9 380 can still play Rainbow Six Extraction on the lower graphics settings at 1080p resolution, and so if you want the smoothest experience possible it is highly recommended to stick to Ultra Low settings.

--------------------

Conclusion

Overall, looking at the benchmark results above, we can see that Rainbow Six Extraction is not a particularly demanding game even for low-end gamers, but can still strain your system on higher graphics settings and allowing for a wide range of performance to image quality customization.

For instance, the R9 380 is below the minimum required GPU to play Rainbow Six Extraction, but can still manage playable frame rates up to Medium graphics settings at 1080p. Although R6 Extraction is built upon the foundations of Rainbow Six Siege, it is still a PvE game and will not require as much pinpoint frame times for competitive play.

The GTX 1060 is a little behind the official recommended GPU for Rainbow Six Extraction, but once again can still manage some decent and playable frame rates up to Ultra graphics settings at 1080p. If you want a full 60fps experience you will need to stay around High graphics settings or lower.

Moving up to high-end cards like the RTX 3070, this GPU still manages to get great frame rates on Ultra graphics settings at 4K resolution, despite the official recommended GPU for 4K Ultra settings being a little higher than the 3070. Still though, this card just scratches the border of being able to play R6 Extraction at its very best.

Rainbow Six Extraction also has an official FPS benchmark tool, which in our testing we found to be pretty representative of your overall performance in-game. However, particularly in outdoor areas, the frame rates can change quite suddenly by either going up or going down significantly depending on the situation. But since most of your time will be spent indoors, these moments should be few and far between, but still worth keeping in mind.

R6 Extraction also includes support for DLSS, so you can significantly improve performance by enabling this setting on a compatible GPU if you are finding those FPS dips to be quite extreme. There's also a render scaling option if you prefer, but is limited in its range.

As always, we welcome any and all feedback from you guys as well with your experience of hardware configurations and FPS performance/quality settings. That way we can all better gauge how well our systems will be able to run Rainbow Six Extraction.
