Back in the day, a game going Gold was a big deal to developers, publishers, and gamers. Now it doesn’t mean so much, but it’s a good indication that a game is unlikely to get delayed. Recently, at the Taipei Game Show 2022, From Software announced that their next highly anticipated title has officially gone gold, and even revealed the game’s estimated playtime.
According to Yasuhiro Kitao, the Producer at From Software, Elden Ring will take around 30 hours to complete the main story, but there is also a lot more to do in the vast open world. Answering fan questions at the Taipei Game Show 2022, Kitao revealed a few interesting details about the game, which is launching in a month’s time.
(Kitao mentions the playtime at around 32:55)
“This will differ significantly by player, but in terms of the targets set during development, the idea is that the main route should be able to be completed within around 30 hours,” said Kitao. “The game as a whole is quite massive, and contains many dozens more hours worth of gameplay, but if we are talking about the main route only, it shouldn't take much longer than that.”
30 hours may not seem like a whole lot these days, but coming off the back of Dying Light 2’s supposed 500 hour playtime, it’s at least a little more honest. 30 hours is also not so different from previous titles by From Software like Sekiro, Bloodborne, and Dark Souls. But as we all know, the potential for even more content is there in the exploration and side quests.
Either way, Elden Ring is just around the corner now, and if you’re really excited for it the video above should reveal some interesting tidbits about the game’s design and development. Hopefully we won’t see anymore game delays, and potentially see more gameplay released before the February 25th launch.
What do you think? Are you excited for Elden Ring? How do you feel about the 30 hour playtime? Were you hoping it to be longer? How long has it taken you to complete other titles by From Software? Let us know!

Here's hoping that gone gold actually means that it's finished. Then again, no company is going to surprise me these days.
PC Specs
Going gold means that it has 500 000 pre-orders(or sales) or some other amount of pre-orders(or sales) similar to that amount.
PC Specs
Where are you getting your info since going gold doesn't mean that at all.
PC Specs
i think that he is just joking
PC Specs
Weirdest joke I've seen. At least so far.
PC Specs
I'm not joking, back in the day every game that would sell 1 million copies got PS Platinum with it, similar to record sales, so I assumed it means the same when they say a game got gold.
PC Specs
his info is for music albums
PC Specs
thats for music albums and !^%#, for games it means what mtlvmpr said
PC Specs
Oh, well I assumed, because there used to be platinum games back in the day for the playstation, meaning they sold over 1 million copies, then they called them essentials.

Hear hear

30 hours sounds good, plus the fact that im fairly new to the souls series will make the game much longer for me.
PC Specs
Also I think that 30 hours is pretty good, assuming that's for unexperienced players. I'm growing tired of very long games, because I lack the time to play, but also most games don't really have more than 20-25 hours worth of gameplay, hell many get old only after 10.
PC Specs
Demon's Souls takes me about 15-16 hours but I've beaten it just three times.
DS1 takes me about 12-14 hours to 95-100% and with the DLC it's about 15-16 hours
DS2 takes me about 22 hours to 95-100% with the DLCs it's about 26-28 hours
DS3 takes me about 12-14 hours to 95-100% with the DLCs it's about 16-17 hours
Bloodborne takes me about 10-11 hours to 95-100% and with the DLC it's about 13-14 hours
Sekiro I've beaten only twice and it took me around 17-18 hours the second time
PC Specs
Um "I've beaten it just three times"...
You kidding...
That's insane. I know people who haven't played it even once, much less 3 times.

Well compared to beating DS1 probably a couple dozen times and DS3 and Bloodborne a dozen of times each, it's not a lot.

May I ask why you keep coming back to the DS games?
