Up For Debate - Is Cyberpunk 2077 in a good state now?

In case you weren’t aware (somehow), CD Projekt Red’s latest title that released in December 2020 didn’t exactly go down very well amongst players. From an obscene amount of bugs and glitches, to frankly unplayable performance on last generation consoles, Cyberpunk 2077 didn’t exactly release in the best state.

But now, just over a year later, the biggest update yet for Cyberpunk 2077 just released, bringing a whole big batch of improvements and fixes, as well as some well received free DLC. Many are considering Patch 1.5 to be how CP2077 should have been released at launch, so we want to know what are your thoughts on the game now!

Whether you played at launch, waited until recently, or picked it up every now and then in between, we want to hear your thoughts on the state of the game and if you’re still excited for the future of its content like the upcoming major story DLCs, and if you think now is a good time for new players to jump in or whether they should wait a little longer.

We’re also going to trial something new here by adding a ‘See results’ option to one of the polls, so new players can actually see the results that recent players have said. Hopefully that won’t mean the rest of the results will be overshadowed by it, but that’s why we’re going to give it a go to see what happens!

So what do you think? Is Cyberpunk 2077 in a good state now? Is Patch 1.5 how CP2077 should have launched already? Or does it still need more work? Is it a good time for new players to jump in? And are you still excited for any upcoming major DLCs? Let’s debate!

Is Cyberpunk 2077 in a good state now?

Do you think the latest update is how the game should have launched? Or does it still need a bit more work?

Do you think now is a good time for new players to jump in?

Are you still excited for any future major story DLC?

Even though there's a lot of the promised features missing, the game is still enjoyable and people should buy the game IF they can find it on other websites at a discounted price. In terms of bugs, it still has quite a few but it doesn't ruin the gameplay as much as before.

I went through the entire main quests and many side quests without issues since patch 1.3

Great state of gameplay and bugs free doesn't mean they keep their promised state of game, remember?Where are all the PROMISED content of the game? There a DOZENS of missing stuff!Never touching this game again even if it was a gift!

I just started playing for the first time and personally my experience has been very good. I haven't experienced any of the bugs I have seen on Youtube so that's a plus. I do believe if they had launched it in this state which is Patch 1.5, it would have received a lot less flak. I will post updates as I progress through the game.

Can we PLEASE se poll results without having to vote? I'm genuinely trying to see what my peers think about the question post but can't without skewing the results... I can guarantee many people vote randomly just to see the charts; the poll system is worthless like this. It has been for months. Change it already.

This is definitely how it should have been at launch! I never finished the main story... just played side quests mostly... been waiting for this update tbh, I might wait a bit longer to finish the main story but the game overall compared to what it was initially is much better now.

All i can ask now is a legit 3rd person perspective gameplay, more meaningful choices (i mean come on, picking a life path has to have a greater impact on a game as a whole, not just a few conversation options) and more immersive world (it feels a bit soulless tbh but the potential to be something great is still there).

It seems like a lot of people are saying that if cdpr wants to reach the goal they set themselves (or promised) they might need to do a total overhaul but i don't think a few patches and even big dlcs will be able do that... the hype was just too damn high lol

so i got this game as a gift on release day and with every patch I have come back to the game to check on the state of it and seen what felt like no real change.

With patch 1.5 I can honestly say I feel impressed, is it up to the advertised game we wanted/expected? No. would I say it's worth buying? only on a discount down to £20/£25. is it worth revisiting if you already own and never completed like me? definitely. Story is pretty good, its kept me entertained longer than most SP games in a while.

Graphics are pretty damn amazing and whatever they done under the hood with this patch it is very much welcomed not to mention as an AMD user FSR is a much needed addition. yes there is blur but personally maxing RT give s so much more immersion than what the blur takes away.

after 20 ish hrs play patch 1.5 and todays stealth 10gb patch I have only seen 3 bugs. 1 NPC walked half way through a door when he went to knock on it, 1 floating mobile phone and a "cloaked" floating DB headset which TBF I felt like I really had to hunt to find that last one.

driving is now probably on par with GTA driving, nothing compared to forza but not broken AF.

civilian population is now genuinely reactive. today I pulled a gun on someone expecting the standard run away reaction, nope they pulled a gun on me and opened fire, nearby police saw this opened fire on civilian and me. other civilians started to panic run.

apparently I hear there are now police vs gang chases like the open world muggings to can interfere with but I have not come across one of these, yet.

honest opinion? game has gone from the total joke 2/10 game on release to now a solid 6-8/10 depending on how much you like the story.

ok so I've just finished the game. I want to revise my rating of 6-8/10 up to a solid 7.5-9/10 dependant on how much you like the story.

from the final hr or so of main story mission the cinematic level just went through the roof. finished 3 endings(I think there is another I missed) and these each felt like a good close to the story was achieved.

when I first tried this game back on release Johnny Silver hands character felt like such a douche I personally wondered why Keanu Reaves took the voice part but by the end of the game KR's talent shines through and brings real life to the story.

apart from general polish stuff that every game suffers from (hair/face going through clothing in cut scenes where that body part is the whole focus of the camera) I cant fault it.

its not what was promised, but now it is definitely something worth experiencing

Your comment is more like a review. Was a pleasure reading it.

P.S.

Think you should make a review of the game.

Its an ok game for what it is now, if we speak about what was advertised to us as gamers that buy this product, i must say it will never be that, sadly

For my opinion, it definitely is in better state, no doubt there. But it still isn't "fixed", but the big update was much needed and game would definitely be better, if it released in this state. Still, it is not where it should be for me to say it is ready for release, bugs are still around, some of which are hard to miss. So for new people, my recommendation is simple, if you really want to play it and can't wait, then I guess this isn't the worst time to jump in. But if you are more like, I want to eventually play it, then keep waiting. I mean, if nothing else, CDPR is at least still sticking with the game so far and hopefully we well get more of those big patches to bring game closer to what it should have been on release. Though games like GTA are definitely still lightyears ahead of it in polish of comparable elements.

So when are they having a No Mans Sky redemption arc?

After a few years of course. The game came out too early. But I'm still eager to give it a go after this patch came out.

As someone who preordered (yeah I know) and played over 100hrs during the 1st month after launch and checks back in every time a big patch is released, I sincerely belive Cyberpunk's problem can't be fixed with patches or small free DLCs.

The game, as an Action FPS with RPG mechanics, is decent and has always been, the graphics are simply marvelous, the gun play is more than ok, the story is fine, I never found a huge amount of bugs, mostly related to cars, which IMO means the game was always ok to be played and can be worth your time.

This game's problem relates to the amount of things promised and underdelivered, we were led to belive it simply wasn't going to be one more decent game, we were told it was going to offer everything we wanted and even more. Instead, we got a game with very few choices and branching paths, with no world interactability, there's literally nothing else to do apart from quests and admiring the view (a very pretty view tbf) and with very few memorable side quests.

I sincerely belive the game needed a lot more years in the oven (maybe 2025 launch), it truly is a shame, I belive they had the vision and talent to deliver a new benchmark in gaming and instead what we got was one more decent game, nothing more, nothing less.

Ok so it was mildly annoying that I had to troll the polls if I was curious about results. Now finally there is a See results option, but on only one question? Wtf GD, are you guy deliberately messing with us?

I thought that the "See results" option would simply show you what other people selected, not that it would create a separate bar. My guess is that this was easier to implement that rework the voting system.

No, it's an enjoyable game but still far from what was promised.

I put on a couple of hours since the update and still ran into janky stuff behind every corner, like cars and people randomly spawning/despawning, people flying above the ground, police still spawns somewhere around you when you commit a crime etc.

And there's so much pop-in it's ridiculous, wasn't like this in the beginning, must've come with some patch meant to optimize things. A lot of stuff will pop-in way too close to you even on ultra settings.

I hate it when later game versions butcher something related to graphics... When Witcher 3 came out people complained about hairworks being an fps sink, so with later patches they completely butchered the fur to the point where bears look like they have diseases as half their fur is missing and the fur hairs themselves are sparse and thick. On top of that if you walk around wolves or bears - you can even see the fur strands pop in and out of view depending which side you are looking at. All because people couldn't wait a little bit longer to max it out...

I'd imagine CP is suffering the same now...
