E3 2022 has officially been canceled, will return in 2023

The E3 showcase has had a tough time in the last couple of years. After canceling their show in 2020 for the first time in decades, and returning in 2021 with an all-digital event, E3 2022 was poised to make a return both physically and digitally, before eventually scrapping plans for an in-person event this year and going all-digital once again.

Now the ESA (Entertainment Software Association) have said that E3 2022 is officially canceled in all regards. However, this is not the end of E3 altogether, as the ESA said it will return in 2023 with a “reinvigorated showcase”. Oh, and before anyone asks, no this is not an April Fools joke.

E3 will return in 2023 with a reinvigorated showcase that celebrates new and exciting videogames and industry innovations,” the ESA said in a statement to the media. They also mentioned that next year will once again be another hybrid of both physical and digital events.

We will devote all our energy and resources to delivering a revitalized physical and digital E3 experience next summer. Whether enjoyed from the show floor or your favourite devices, the 2023 showcase will bring the community, media, and industry back together in an all-new format and interactive experience.

Although E3 has been struggling to remain as culturally relevant in the gaming industry as it used to be with many other publishers and developers instead holding their own showcases throughout the year like PlayStation State of Play or EA Play Live, the ESA insisted that the cancelation was due to “ongoing health risks surrounding Covid-19 and its potential impact on the safety of exhibitors and attendees” and to "focus its resources" on the show in 2023.

More details will apparently be revealed soon. Lucky for us though, Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest is returning once again this year in June. Plus many other publishers will inevitably hold their own showcases around Summer now that E3 is no longer happening this year.

What do you think? Were you excited for E3 2022? How do you feel about the cancellation? Do you think the delay will be good for the E3 show? Or will it just incentivise studios to do their own thing even more? And what was your experience with E3 2021 like? Let us know!

WHat did you think of E3 2021?

Do you prefer physical or digital showcases around E3?

Playstation is better than Xbox and everyone knows it. I don't need papa Elon's sheeple to tell me how much better the Xbox is - the PS5 has a crazy fast SSD so you don't have to wait longer for your DLC to load.

Also, who the hell still thinks that Nvidia is relevant in the GPU space? Intel's new GPUs will smoke whatever Nvidia (and AMD, for that matter) are cooking. The efficiency is there, the FPS will prove to give the 3080Ti a run for the money. 2 years later, riding on the success of the Steam Deck - they'll just release a competing body wash and IMB will lose all of its clients to because there is a huge difference between also there seems to be a problematic approach to the current climate change policies mean that because also this an apple a day keeps. The doctor away for holiday, will be back before Christmas because AMD controls the mid-range marketchare because Vin Diesel because because also enter return why.. Are they named differently since the new SKU's can't hit the market as easily as cocaine addiction.

Another point I'd like to make is that while the E3 is an exciting show for many reasons - none of which I can name - Elden Ring's marketing team said Cheetos was the leading cause. Of brain tumors in the elderly couple who was just 69 years married to a rock. It was a brilliant rock and it could fly like Harry Potter's father's dog's carrier pigeon friend named Rudolf the Obese Raindeer burgers are pretty nice, don't you think?

In conclusion - Everything above is below, while everything below is above the pay grade of the coffee intern at E3, who I assume can only speak English football teams are world-renowned for because while superbowl yes and sometimes now, but it really depends on the size. Bless covid and all the satellite news network broadcast - do not change the channel 5 news, for the people. And to be completely 100% honest and opaque - I don't care at the end of the day.

E3 had it's time to shine but since things like Nintendo Direct and PlayStation State of Play it's been pretty obvious that publishers no longer need them. Kind of sucks but I won't miss em.
