Despite the buzz around post-apocalyptic zombie survival games slowly losing its momentum and becoming somewhat of a meme in the gaming community, one of the most anticipated games of the year seems like a blend of The Last of Us with DayZ, as a sort of ‘final form’ to the genre trope. However, the developers have unfortunately had to delay the title…

The Day Before, Steam’s most wishlisted game since Elden Ring launched, has been delayed until March 1st 2023 as the developers switch over to Unreal Engine 5, almost a year later than the originally planned launch date of June 21st 2022. It’s unclear whether the official PC system requirements will be updated to reflect the new engine, as right now they are surprisingly quite forgiving.

Feeling and understanding the great responsibility that we face, with enormous gratitude in our hearts, we're pleased to announce that The Day Before is switching to the new Unreal Engine 5 technology!” The developers said. “The transition to a more advanced and adapted open worlds engine, will make the gameplay of The Day Before even more fantastic.

What do you think? Are you excited for The Day Before? How do you feel about the delay? Do you think it’s worth it to switch over to Unreal Engine 5? Let us know!

Are you excited for The Day Before?

Do you think the PC specs will become much more demanding? Or not at all?

Nothing good happens when engines are swapped usually.

They're not swapping the engine. They're upgrading from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5. Quite frankly, it's a smart move, especially for an open world game. UE5 is insane in it's capabilities.

If anything, it'll make the game more stable too, and provide far better quality in lighting. In a horror game of any variation, lighting is so important too.

Well if you can just migrate the project from UE4 to UE5 without anything extra, then sure, but if they have to remake parts of the game, then it'd suck.

migration is literally just a click job and done. but stable, no so much, yet. fair amount of bugs or randomly dropped functionalities and a pretty extrusive bug list on the official UE discord

Anyone who was expecting anything but vaporware from this studio hasn't been paying attention. Why in the world would you change engines like 3 months out from launch? This is a desperation move, hoping we will all just forget about it. Because this team of like maybe a dozen people has literally zero chance of pulling off what they promised.

You watch. In 9 months, they'll claim that "the technology just hasn't caught up to their vision" and then they'll cancel it, blaming UR5. Bet.

They were supposed to launch earlier this year, then went radio silent and said they would have it out this fall. So na just gonna let this one die lol, not gonna invest in anything until it comes out, even then this could very well be another Stomping Lands

Not interested in another live service. The game looks great but that is expected considering generational improvements in graphics.

I wasn't aware this is supposed to be an MMO - didn't look like it from the video and the article didn't mention it being an MMO :D

"Welcome to The Day Before, an open-world MMO survival set in a deadly, post-pandemic America overrun by flesh-hungry infected and survivors killing each other for food, weapons, and cars. You wake up alone in a world you no longer remember, setting out to find answers and the resources to survive."
