Back in 2011 Bethesda launched their highly successful Fantasy RPG Skyrim on a very special date: 11/11/11. Understandably, for their next highly anticipated RPG they decided to stick with the same magical number and launch Starfield on 11/11/22. However, Bethesda’s epic Sci-Fi RPG will now be launching later than planned.

That’s right, surprisingly Bethesda has announced that Starfield has officially been delayed until the “first half of 2023.” Along with Arkane’s Redfall which was revealed at the Xbox and Bethesda E3 2021 showcase. The exact reason for the delays are unknown apart from the developers wanting “to ensure that you receive the best, most polished versions of them.

We've made the decision to delay the launches of Redfall and Starfield to the first half of 2023,” Bethesda said in a recent Twitter post. “The teams at Arkane Austin (Redfall) and Bethesda Game Studios (Starfield) have incredible ambitions for their games, and we want to ensure that you receive the best, most polished versions of them.

We want to thank everyone for their excitement for Redfall and Starfield. That energy is a huge part of what inspires all of us everyday and drives our own excitement for what we are creating.” No further details on an exact release date were given, and it’s unlikely we’ll get one until later this year.

Interestingly, some reports online have detailed that staff at Bethesda were worried about the 11/11/22 release date for Starfield, and did not want to see another situation like Cyberpunk 2077. So it’s possible that, unbelievably, Bethesda does not want a repeat of releasing broken, unfinished games to the masses, even if the release date is too enticing.

With the Xbox and Bethesda 2022 showcase coming up soon, it’s likely we’ll be seeing more of Starfield and Redfall within the next month, as Bethesda even mentioned that they “can't wait to share our first deep dive into the gameplay for both Redfall and Starfield soon.

What do you think? Are you excited for Starfield and Redfall? Which one are you most excited about? Are you surprised by the delay? And do you think we’ll see more of them during this Summer? Let us know!

Which game are you more excited for?

Are you surprised by the delay for Starfield?

Better late than bad. I would rather they release at 11.11.23 instead of rushing it out.

I'm not that surprised, but i'd say its unexpected. Has Bethesda ever delayed any game before?

Interesting, I do hope this i s some of that good management by Microsoft, who is interested in platform sellers, rather than just pumping out games. Since Bethesda never felt like they need to release polished game on their own. And I mean Bethesda as corporation not developers who work hard on those games. I guess due to bad reputation they needed to break the glass on announce cool thing early, similar as they did with TES6 when they announced TES mobile game Blades. But I do hope this is good sign. As much as I will believe it when I see it, I rather see bad omens be proven wrong than be right about that.

And don't get me wrong, I can't wait to see game come out, but I would rather see it latter than to see another Cyberpunk 2077 or Fallout 76. Though especially after CP2077 backlash, I can totally see them not wanting to be next one in line. And while I don't support extremism, I am happy to see that people said enough at some point and perhaps that being taken at least a bit more seriously than usual.

I prefer the way they announced FO4. Was announced and released a couple months later, not years and years later and then delayed.

Makes sense, their recent games have been released to outright broken state so its good that its delayed to make sure its their most stable game yet. Considering all the games they've put out there are *not* stable xD But at least during that extra year actually show gameplay, show how you play and interact with the world. Cuz right now no one knows anything other than a trailer, music and people talking about it. Really starts to hurt credibility when you don't have the confidence to even show the game. Especially considering how little Bethesda has now.

With Fallout 76 and especially ESO printing money, on top of Microsoft backing them up, I can see that they are taking their time to release good games, but... I've never even heard of Redfall... only me?

I wish I could answer "Somewhat Surprised" to the 2nd question. I don't think it's surprising that a game as ambition as Starfield needs more polishing. I do find it surprising that Bethesda Game Studios would delay a game. Have they ever delayed a game before? Again, I'm talking about the Studio not the Publisher.

Maybe Microsoft is a good guy and decided to push Todd into delaying, instead of delivering another Fallout 76 xD

Now I'm sure TES6 won't come out until 2030...

TES 6 will come out? Why? They can just release the next-gen version of Skyrim with RT and DLSS/FSR and call it a day until PS6, Xbox Next comes out and then they will remaster Skyrim once again😃
