RTX 4090 rumored specs point to 2x performance over RTX 3090

As the rumors come in hot and fast for the next generation of graphics cards - most recently claiming they could be launching as early as July 2022 - a new report now gives us an update for the specs of Nvidia’s flagship of the RTX 40 series, and boasts some pretty impressive performance estimates.

According to kopite7kimi once again, the RTX 4090 will have around twice the performance of an RTX 3090, which is pretty incredible. Additionally, some of the specs have been cut down from previous rumors, including the core count and power draw which now sits at 450W instead of 600W like we heard before.

RTX 4090 rumored specs vs RTX 3090 Ti and RTX 3090

GPU Core count Memory Memory speed (Gbps) TDP
RTX 4090 16128 24GB GDDR6X 21 450W
RTX 3090 Ti 10752
RTX 3090 10496 19.5 350W

Compared to an RTX 3090 Ti, the RTX 4090 is virtually identical in specs apart from a more than 50% increase in shader counts. That doesn’t immediately sound like it could reach twice the performance of an RTX 3090. Then again we heard rumors before that the RTX 40 series could reach over 100 TFLOPS of raw power, so in that regard it’s not exactly impossible.

Once again take it all with a grain of salt, but kopite7kimi insists the RTX 40 series launch is now happening in mid-July, so that’s only a month away now. If true then we’ll likely hear more about these new cards very soon (possibly even a tease at Nvidia’s keynote at Computex next week), and see whether these rumors hold any weight or not.

What do you think? Are you excited for the RTX 40 series? How do you feel about the rumored specs? And what do you think of the rumored performance increase? Is it plausible? How much do you think it will really compare to the RTX 3090? Let us know!

How much better do you think the RTX 4090 will be over the RTX 3090? In percent

Im much more interested in 4080 or lower cards. 3090 was a waste of money with only small performance increase over 3080.

For normal gaming - yes. For when you need the memory - no.
