The COVID-19 pandemic years of 2020 and 2021 were mostly rocked by multiplayer titles that took the internet by storm. With more people than ever looking to play games online and socialize when they otherwise were not able to. Now that those games have peaked, it would make sense to move to a free-to-play model instead…

That’s exactly what the hugely popular Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is doing, by officially going free-to-play on June 21st 2022. It will also be making its first arrival to the Epic Games Store as well as the Xbox and Nintendo Switch consoles alongside a brand new Season of content.

The catch for PC players is that once Fall Guys becomes F2P, it will be exclusive to the Epic Games Store. Owners of the Steam version will still be able to play and get updates, but new players will no longer be able to get the Steam version. Owners of the game already on any platform will get a “Legacy Pack” as compensation for the free to play switch though.

What do you think? Are you excited for Fall Guys going free-to-play? Did you already own/play the game before? How do you feel about it being an EGS exclusive? Let us know!

Will you be playing Fall Guys when it goes F2P

While this is probably great for the game itself Epic still annoys me man... Why did they rip the game away from Steam? I already spent the money! This same crap happened with Rocket League too and it's one of the annoying things about buying these digital only games.

Epic strikes again. They really want to be the ONLY platform.

So bad. Just when it was easy to play on the Steam Deck. Welp, there's the Heroic Games Launcher--

Feels like they are sending pretty mixed message. On one side you go from buy to play to free to play because you are trying to stop decline in playerbase and hope that free to play will reverse it and that microtransactions will make up for not having any of that copy sale money. Which makes sense so far. Then you se that they will go Epic exclusive and you are like, just why? I mean if you want to go free to play to increase playerbase you definitely want your game to be as available as possible on multiple platforms. But limiting it on Epic and going off the biggest platform you could possibly have with largest userbase is bit puzzling. Sure, initially they might profit from news exposure, but that will get them so far, before it becomes forgotten. And while Epics money is easy money, it won't last forever. So I don't think exclusivity was good choice. Might be short term, but long term, I doubt it.
