Hideo Kojima is one of the most prolific game directors of our time, and as such many of his games are shrouded in secrecy. However, it seems that one of his recent collaborators has just inadvertently blurted out that they are developing a sequel to Kojima’s last release, Death Stranding.

According to Norman Reedus, the actor who plays Sam Porter Bridges in Death Stranding, during a recent interview he confirmed that work has officially begun on Death Stranding 2: “We just started the second one,” said Reedus in response to a question about working on the first game.

That could have just been a casual slip of the tongue, but Reedus goes even further in confirmation: “It took me maybe two or three years to finish all the MoCap sessions and everything. It takes a lot of work. And then the game came out, and it just won all these awards, and it was a huge thing, so we just started part two of that.

And then the man himself, Hideo Kojima, seemingly responded to Reedus’ blunder with a post on Twitter that read: “Go to your private room, my friend” in reference to the various private rooms players can enter in Death Stranding 1, along with images of Kojima wielding the iconic barbed baseball bat Lucille from The Walking Dead above Reedus’ head.

Of course, knowing Kojima this could all be an elaborate ruse from the Director. He’s known to be very secretive about his projects and very specific about the marketing of his games. Then again it could just as easily be a normal slip-up, as Reedus isn’t known to be the best at keeping secrets.

Either way, if Death Stranding 2 has started development then it likely will be a long time before we get to actually see any of it. The first Death Stranding was officially revealed at E3 2016 in June, and officially launched almost 3 and half years later in November 2019 (for consoles at least). If DS2 is revealed this year, then we might be expecting a similar wait for the sequel.

What do you think? Are you excited for a potential Death Stranding 2? What did you think of the first one? If the sequel is in development, when do you think we will first see it? And when will it be released? Let us know your thoughts!
