Alright, soldiers, listen up. It's time to once again go forth into the battlefield as one of the greatest snipers of World War Two and to thwart the Nazi regime in the latest installment of Sniper Elite. We've already seen that the game can be pretty demanding depending on your graphics settings, but what are the most demanding graphics options? And which ones can we turn all the way up with little FPS loss?

In this article we will take a look at which Sniper Elite 5 graphics settings are the best to turn all the way up to Ultra and which ones can get us a little FPS boost for no real visual loss when we turn them off or down. We've compiled a list below of the most demanding graphics options in the game, so you can get a handle on what to expect when you adjust different graphics settings in Sniper Elite V to get the perfect balance of visual fidelity and FPS performance in game.

Below you will see every graphics option listed and benchmarked against a minimum graphics setting used as our baseline benchmark for Sniper Elite 5. From there we see which graphics options have the highest performance impact on our hardware for the least visual improvement, and then we will see which options can be turned up to max and deliver the best visual improvement in SE5.

If you want to look at some more graphics benchmarks with various gaming graphics cards running Sniper Elite V, then you can check out our Sniper Elite 5 PC Performance Benchmarks article instead.

Sniper Elite 5 PC performance report and graphics card benchmarks

For the performance cost result baseline we used the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card - which is close to the recommended GPU for Sniper Elite 5 (a DX12 capable graphics card with 6GB VRAM) - an Intel Core i7-10700K processor, and 16GB of DDR4 memory.

Unfortunately, Sniper Elite 5 does not have an in-game FPS benchmark tool. So in order to standardize the results below we started one of the first few missions of the game, shot a few bad guys and explored the area a little bit. We found this run to be pretty representative of your overall gameplay experience in Sniper Elite V, when comparing each graphics option relative to each other.

If you see any significant discrepancy/difference between our results and the actual FPS returned on your systems, then please do share your findings in the comments below.

There aren't too many graphics settings available in Sniper Elite 5, so we went through the 11 graphics options listed and tested each one in turn, recording the average frame rates for each and then comparing them to a baseline FPS that was recorded with all the graphics options either turned off or to their lowest settings.

What are the most demanding graphics options in Sniper Elite 5?

As you can see in the FPS performance graph above, there are not a whole lot of graphics settings available in SEV, but there are a few options which will have a significant impact on your frame rate, as well as a few which will have little to no impact when turned up to the maximum quality.

The most demanding graphics option in Sniper Elite 5 is Draw Distance with an FPS cost of 27.38%, closely followed by Reflection Detail at 22.73% and Shadow Detail at 18.6%. Next up is Water Detail at 13.53%, then Tessellation at 8.25%, Obscurance Fields at 7.93%, Ambient Occlusion at 7.61%, and Texture Detail at 6.98%.

The next few options have very little impact on FPS in Sniper Elite V, with one in particular actually improving frame rate by a small amount. For instance, Anti-Aliasing only has an FPS cost of 3.49%, whilst Motion Blur has a 0.32% FPS cost. Lastly, Async Compute can actually improve FPS by 2.34% if your hardware can support it.

SE5 also includes other options that can help boost your FPS, including a traditional render scale option for all graphics cards. However, if your hardware supports it, Sniper Elite 5 also includes AMD FIdelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) which can upscale the image for increased frame rates with little loss to visual quality.

Conclusion

Sniper Elite 5 graphics settings performance results and conclusion - Looking over all the results above, we can see that Sniper Elite 5 doesn't have a lot of graphics settings to adjust, but still offers a wide range of customization to help improve performance on a per-setting basis.

If you want to improve FPS in Sniper Elite 5 then the first setting you should turn down is Draw Distance with an FPS cost of 27.38%. You should then turn down Reflection Detail that has an FPS cost of 22.74%, followed by Shadow Detail at 18.6% FPS cost.

Then you should start turning down Water Detail at a 13.53% FPS cost, then Tessellation at 8.25%, Obscurance Fields at 7.93%, Ambient Occlusion at 7.61%, Texture Detail at 6.98%, and Anti-Aliasing at 3.49%. Lastly you should turn off Motion Blur, which has a very minimal FPS cost of 0.32%.

Additionally, you can enable Async Compute which can actually boost your frame rate by 2.43% if your hardware supports it. Similarly, AMD FSR can be used to increase FPS, which is supported on almost all modern hardware. Or you can use the traditional render scale option which will be supported by all GPUs.

Although we found our benchmark run to be pretty representative of a typical gameplay session in Sniper Elite 5, we did disable all bullet cam cinematic sequences. The reason for this is because bullet cam sequences of purely cinematic and do not affect gameplay, but they can range in performance depending on what is happening in the scene. So we chose to omit them from the benchmark run in order to standardize the results.

It is also worth mentioning that from the results of our Sniper Elite 5 GPU benchmarks article, if your GPU has less than the minimum amount of VRAM required (4GB) then textures will not load in on higher graphics settings, so it is best to keep Texture Detail on Low in Sniper Elite V if your graphics card has less than 4GB of video memory.

And that's it for the most important graphics options in Sniper Elite 5! As always, we're now passing it onto you guys. We would love to hear your thoughts on what graphics settings you turn all the way up in SE5 for little to no performance impact, and which options you turn down to get some extra frames so we can all benefit from better performance and image quality in this highly anticipated sniper action game!
