In case you’ve been living under a rock lately, Activision officially announced that they are releasing another Call of Duty game later this year (surprise!). For years now though the series has long been at home on Battle.net, with no Steam release since Call of Duty: WW2. However, some artwork on the Steam store seems to suggest the franchise could be returning to Valve’s storefront…
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 officially launches on October 28th. We haven’t seen any gameplay footage yet, but Activision did reveal some artwork for the game’s marketing, featuring the fan favorite character Ghost. That same artwork appeared on Steam over the weekend, sparking rumors COD could be coming back to Steam.
The image has since been removed, likely because the internet went wild over the possibility. Despite still selling millions of copies, 2019’s Modern Warfare was the biggest success of the last few games, and based on audience reaction the upcoming sequel is set to be one of the most anticipated games of the franchise, let alone the year. So it would certainly be a great time to reintroduce COD to the Steam storefront.
Microsoft also recently acquired Activision Blizzard, so it's not exactly inconceivable. However, it's likely it will still launch the Battle.net launcher from Steam even if it does come back.
What do you think? Are you excited for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2? Do you think it will be coming back to Steam? How would you feel about it if it did? Do you think it will still launch through the Battle.net launcher even if you bought it on Steam? Let us know your thoughts!
