After numerous rumors and leaks in the past few days, THQ Nordic has officially announced and revealed an upcoming reboot for one of the fathers of Survival Horror - after acquiring the rights to the series in 2018 - during their recent THQ Nordic Digital Showcase event.

No release date has been announced for the Alone in the Dark reboot yet, but considering the game will be playable at Gamescom 2022 (taking place August 24th-28th) we can assume the official launch date won’t be so far off. Plus, it is being written by the lead writer forSOMA, another Horror title which was praised for its narrative.

Survival Horror has been booming lately, largely thanks to the immense success of the Resident Evil franchise. Alan Wake 2, for instance, is going full Survival Horror this time, and this new AitD reboot looks quite similar to the RE series, down to the quirky puzzles and over-the-shoulder perspective (from the recent Resident Evil 2 Remake and Resident Evil 3 Remake, as well as older titles).

What do you think? Are you excited for Alone in the Dark? Have you played much of the series already? What do you think of the gameplay above? Let us know your thoughts!

Are you excited for a new Alone in the Dark game?

Man i hope they gonna redo some sort of the story alone in the dark, the new nightmare. That game was terrible control wise, but its story was awesome! With that manor and the monsters from the world of darkness.

Somehow it reminded me a bit of the poltergeist tv series, which also was sublime story wise.

So i really hope that story gets the game it really deserves, and bringing new life into the AitD series, might be an exellent oppertunity for it!

I am so happy there is a Survival Horror Renaissance, it was an abandoned genre for next to an entire console generation. Resident Evil 7 saved the genre. Slowly paving the way for new entries and inviting other AAA developers to take on the project. It was a long road but hopefully Q4 2022 will have some amazing new games and experiences for us. Callisto Protocol and Dead Space remake are hugely anticipated for me.

I'm not much of an "AA game" man myself, nor did I play the original, but looking up the dev (Pieces Interactive) they don't really have any big releases under their belt.
