If the battle between EA and Activision for FPS supremacy on three platforms wasn't enough, we may soon see the addition of the Wii U.
Players have enjoyed the never ending clash of Battlefield and Call of Duty on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 for some time now and they've loved every bit of it. But it looks like the new consoles are also going to take part in the action starting with the Wii U gamers...
Retailers in these days have the tendency to oust the release dates of upcoming games, much to the dismay of the makers, and at times even the games itself. Zmart, a Chilean retailer has listed the upcoming behemoths for Nintendo Wii U. Yes, it's not an official announcement but it's interesting if true.
Here's a snapshot of the listings itself:
The Wii U is the first next-gen machine with ample room for innovation. It's motion controller in particular is a hit among the gamers. Developers could surprise all of us if they do take Wii U as a serious development platform. And when you have developers like DICE and Infinity Ward(more or less..), Wii U shooter fans can sure get excited. Again, an official announcement would cement this.
Battlefield 4, developed by DICE and published by EA, was revealed way back as a promotional sweet for pre-ordering Medal of Honor: Warfighter. Fans were ecstatic upon hearing this. Some clamoured for a Bad Company 3 but at least it's a full-fledged Battlefield game. Their last effort, Battlefield 3, was lauded for it's many traits but it had it's share of problems as well. This time however, the developers are trying to turn all cons to pros, and couldn't be happier.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision, isn't officially confirmed yet. Thanks to a few leaks though, it is more or less confirmed that this year's Call of Duty is going back to Modern Warfare. Their last game, Modern Warfare 3, was a big commercial hit as well but such is the norm with Call of Duty games that the community just couldn't swallow the 'same game'. Infinity Ward is arguably not what it used to be. With less than half the people remaining since the days of Modern Warfare 2, other subsidiary studios are lending a hand to make sure that this year.. it's different! We desperately need that.
Don't forget about the other two next-gen consoles prepping for a Fall release this year - the Xbox Prestige and PlayStation 4. One or both of these anticipated titles could release on the new consoles and that would make owning these consoles at launch even more fruitful. Sony is readying themselves to unveil on the 20th of February on what looks like the official unveiling of the PlayStation 4. Microsoft is also planning to do their own thing pretty soon. You can be sure GD will be among first to let you know on what develops here.
Regardless of the platforms, we are eagerly looking forward to the battle between the two FPS behemoths( and their publishers) come Fall. Battlefield 4 is likely to come out guns blazing first followed by Modern Warfare 4. This is an assumption based on their past release patterns. Wait for the official word on this matter.
So GD'ers, do you own a Wii U? Will you pick up these titles for it? If not, what platform would you rather buy it for? Let us know by voting and commenting below!
