Quantic Dream Says PS4 Touchpad Will Help Make Games For Larger Audience

Quantic Dream are the developers of several interesting games, such as Heavy Rain, and were one of the first companies to get a PS4 dev kit.

When talking about the controller, they said that the touchpad was "very interesting" and could help open up games for a wider market...

The Playstation 4 controller, called the Dualshock 4, will feature an LED used for the Playstation Move software, as well as a touchpad in the middle. Although rather small in dimensions, the pad is very sensitive, and many developers are trying to add it in to make UI elements easier.

Quantic are one of them; Guillaume de Fondaumiere, the chief operations officer of Quantic Dream said:

"On the other hand, we see today the emergence of new interfaces such as the touchpad and you've seen that, for instance, on the new PlayStation 4 controller there's going to be a touchpad-type of system so that you can interact through it. That's very interesting and we're looking forward to designing games that are adapted to a larger audience, but I can't talk too much about it right now."

Of course, once you start putting touchscreens and new markets in the same sentance, it seems like Sony might be taking a stab at the Wii U, especially when rumors say the playstation touchpad may actually be able to display graphics as well.

The Playstation 4 is going to be very interesting, with the core box still unrevealed to the public as of yet; almost certainly Sony are keeping back some news to counter the Xbox reveal, expected at E3.

Do you think the touchpad will be useful in games? Or are thumbsticks good enough for you? Tell us below.

I use a controller with arcade racing games and RPGs like Final Fantasy ;)
For serious racing games I prefer the good old steering wheel :D

I love both my Dualshock controller and my keyboard and mouse. I'm not to fond of the 360 controller though. After so many years of the Dualshock the 360's seems to fat.

I spent 5 years using the ultra fat Xbox controller, then I moved to PS3 one year using DS controller, the the PS3 died, 6 months with my old rig until the GFX died, 3 years without console, then last year I bought a 360, got bored of it and bought a new rig, which im using now.

I'd say mouse and keyboard are more efficient with FPS, but i prefer controllers for anything else, especially the Dualshock as i feel Xbox one is just too big.

It will be interesting to see have that screen can come into play. The Vita's touch is at the back and is perfectly comfortable to use. This one, however.. I'm really looking forward to their forthcoming conferences.

The Touchpad will be useful in games! If someone buy PS4 will be happy. But I prefer my PC, even I can't play Killzone.. :(
