Quantic Dream are the developers of several interesting games, such as Heavy Rain, and were one of the first companies to get a PS4 dev kit.
When talking about the controller, they said that the touchpad was "very interesting" and could help open up games for a wider market...
The Playstation 4 controller, called the Dualshock 4, will feature an LED used for the Playstation Move software, as well as a touchpad in the middle. Although rather small in dimensions, the pad is very sensitive, and many developers are trying to add it in to make UI elements easier.
Quantic are one of them; Guillaume de Fondaumiere, the chief operations officer of Quantic Dream said:
"On the other hand, we see today the emergence of new interfaces such as the touchpad and you've seen that, for instance, on the new PlayStation 4 controller there's going to be a touchpad-type of system so that you can interact through it. That's very interesting and we're looking forward to designing games that are adapted to a larger audience, but I can't talk too much about it right now."
Of course, once you start putting touchscreens and new markets in the same sentance, it seems like Sony might be taking a stab at the Wii U, especially when rumors say the playstation touchpad may actually be able to display graphics as well.
The Playstation 4 is going to be very interesting, with the core box still unrevealed to the public as of yet; almost certainly Sony are keeping back some news to counter the Xbox reveal, expected at E3.
