Quantum Break was one of several new IP's showcased at E3. Expectations were high from the start, as none other than Remedy Entertainment, the makers of Max Payne and Alan Wake, will be developing the title.
Actually, that should probably read 'titles'; a television series will also be delivered upon release...
Remedy Entertainment is adding to a very new concept. Instead of making a game based upon a series, or the other way around, they decided to produce both at the same time. The two intend to complement each other, although it's unclear exactly how that will work.
Creative director Same Lake stated the following:
"Quantum Break is a lot more than a 'AAA' game, there is a top-of-the-line TV show that ships with the game. Both the game and the show are meant to be consumed together. The decision to produce an entire series is a logical leap forward."
Lake also explains how the two will complement each other, and why it's advised to make use of both:
"We're not creating 'Choose Your Own Adventure,' where very easily one tight story gets watered down to many weaker ones. For us, it is much more about one powerful story told many ways based on your actions."
The TV series is set to be be packaged along with the game at it's release.
Defiance is one of the few other games that has tried for this niche, running the MMORPG alongside the TV series of the same name, airing on the SyFy channel, and has received middling reviews. Do you guys think Quantum Break will be able to pull it off? Or are the mediums just too different? Tell us your thoughts below!
